You’ll take it apart and put it back together so that it’s like new. Using wrenches, specialized tools, grease, and your own hands, you’ll overhaul your brakes, hubs, headsets and that’s just the start. CHAIR: DESIGN + BUILD Instructor: James Brandalise Location: Coyote Wood Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Beginning architects and design students all have to do it: design and build a custom chair. The trick is to design a chair that is just right for you – one that can hold your soda, stash your DVDs, rest your feet, rock back & forth, look like a piece of art – or all of the above. You’ll work with a professional dancer who lives in Seattle and travels worldwide to perform, teach, and learn more about the dance he discovered in high school. DIGITAL LIVE MUSIC PRODUCTION Instructor: Rob Clemente Location: Coyote Studio Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 You’ll learn how to produce music using Ableton Live! Over the course, you’ll learn how to sample, sequence and record vocals or instruments, create melodies using software virtual instruments, sequence drums, and how to use Ableton Live as a DJ instrument, plus some music theory. You will learn how to work together as a team and give each other feedback when creating a vibe in your songs that will be structured with Verse, Chorus and Bridge. FILMMAKING: ALL ABOUT EFFECTS @ NWFF Instructors: Jonah Kozlowski Location: Northwest Film Forum Tuition: $220 + $120 material fee = $340 No film crews or, "Lights, camera, action!" in this course. Your filmmaking will be experimenting and inventing with light, color and movement to create original footage for your audience to see the world in new ways. You'll see films of famous experimental filmmakers and then learn how to use professional cameras, lenses, and Final Cut Pro to create films that move people - and break the rules of traditional cinema. Does a film have to show people or tell a story? What makes a shot interesting? These are questions experimental filmmakers ask. GRAFFITI ART Instructor: Ashley Driscoll-Perez Location: Coyote Art Studio Tuition: $220 + $25 material fee = $245 You’ll work with a great graffiti artist and muralist to build up your skills in the classic styles of graffiti. You’ll learn the basics of lettering and design with a focus on key elements such as line, shape, and use of color. Graffiti Art got underway big time in the 1970’s there are ways to even figuring what styles and methods built up on each other. Good stuff to know! You’ll work everyday on problem solving and sketching challenges and build confidence in your drawing and in how to make clear your ideas. GRAVITY POWERED RACERS Instructor: James Brandalise Location: Coyote Wood Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Design & construct your own LIFE-SIZE gravity-powered racing car in our fully equipped woodshop. You’ll master all of the power, hand tools & equipment needed to construct the wooden body and build in cable steering, a hand break, and wheel axles. You’ll come up with classy designs and hand cut vinyl decals to finish it off to be cool & racy. News alert: you’ll carry on the tradition built by over 3000 Coyote racing-car builders. JEWELRY DESIGN: METALS, LEATHER, + MORE Instructor: Jennifer Bennett Location: Coyote Art Studio Tuition: $220 + $45 material fee = $265 You'll create a line of jewelry working in a variety of materials while working with a professional jeweler. You’ll metal smith in silver and copper, incorporate leather, resin, and beads into your designs. Your personal style will emerge with your earrings, pendants, chains, bracelets, and other wearable objects. As the course proceeds, you can try more advanced techniques such as riveting, creating a patina, or etching. With some simple hand tools, you will be set to make jewelry at home! PAINT WITH THE MASTERS IN MIND Instructor: Timothy Siciliano Location: Coyote Art Studio Tuition: $220 + $25 material fee = $245 You’ll work with a professional painter to develop your skills through the help of well known painters whose unique approaches have gained much attention and established their giant reputations. Each week you will take a good look at the artworks of one of them to study their styles and painting techniques, and then go on to experiment and apply those techniques to your own work. Painters like David Hockney, Kehinde Wiley, Roy Lichtenstein, and Yayoi Kusama will be the sources of your exploration for gathering new painting techniques to add to your current talents. Challenge yourself to figure out a pet house design that would make your pet feel cozy and comfortable. A custom shelter for your dog, cat, garden birds, or the pet that we don’t want to imagine you have. You’ll learn how to use all of the hand and power tools in our professional woodshop as you build it out of wood and and trim it out. 6 PHOTOGRAPHIC ART PROJECTS Instructor: Martha Chaudhry Location: Coyote Art Studio Tuition: $220 + $40 material fee = $260 Create powerful works of art by altering, transforming and blending images with other materials. You’ll be inspired by samples of artists’ works and explore unique approaches to gather ideas and create your own original photo artworks. You’ll shoot images with Coyote’s DSLR cameras, edit and alter them on laptops. Throughout the course you’ll explore mixed media techniques that include fragmentation, collage, image transfer, and over-painting. ROBOTICS + MECHANICS Instructor: Andy Peterson Location: Coyote Studio Tuition: $220 + $85 material fee = $305 You’ll be designing and building three robots. That means you’ll be soldering, glue-gunning & troubleshooting as you work with switches, motors, solar cells, & batteries. You’ll build a drawing machine, an autonomous “bug,” and a solar powered one, generally being immersed in the fields of electronics & mechanics as you put new skills & knowledge into your custom-built robots. SING WITH A PRO: RHYTHMS + MOVEMENT Instructor: Felisha Barnes Location: Coyote Performance Studio Tuition: $220 This course is for those of you who like to sing and would like to develop skills of those professional singers who can belt out their songs with confidence and can emotionally connect with their audience. In this class you learn about expressing the feelings behind the words and how volume, timing, and delivery can work for you. You’ll dive deep into the art of listening as you build harmonies and vocal rhythms with the whole group. It is not a traditional singing class but one of techniques that will carry the day. WELDING + METAL FABRICATION Instructor: Alair Wells +Hazel Margaretes Location: Coyote Metal Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Using MIG welders, metal saws, hot and cold bending systems, and grinders, you’ll begin to master the basics of welding and metal fabrication. Building on a series of basic challenges, you’ll develop skills to create metal pieces as art (table top, sculpture or garden art) or as function, (small bench, table, chair) or a combination of art + functionality. WELDING + POP ART Instructor: Alair Wells + Hazel Margaretes Location: Coyote Metal Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Using MIG welders, metal saws, cold bending systems, and grinders, you’ll begin to master the basics of welding and metal fabrication. This week's welders will work in the spirit of Claes Oldenburg, an American made famous for creating giant public art pieces of oversized everyday objects: a giant eraser, a tube of lipstick, a hand saw. WELDING + METAL SCULPTURE Instructor: Alair Wells + Hazel Margaretes Location: Coyote Metal Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Using MIG welders, metal saws, hot and cold bending systems, and grinders, you’ll begin to master the basics of welding and metal fabrication. The focus this course will be toward 3D sculptures: anything from abstract to fanciful; candle sticks to garden art; figurative pieces of animals, minerals, vegetables; or anything beyond. You’ll be using welding skills to develop fine-art aesthetics because you’ll be working with a teacher who is a metal sculptor. WELDING + FORGING Instructor: Alair Wells + Hazel Margaretes Location: Coyote Metal Shop Tuition: $220 + $70 material fee = $290 Using MIG welders, metal saws, hot and cold bending systems, and grinders, you’ll begin to master the basics of metal fabrication and blacksmithing. From a series of basic challenges, you’ll develop skills to create metal pieces as art (sculpture or garden art) or as function, (bench, table, chair). With Coyote’s forge, you can also work in the oldest (1200 BC) metalworking process ever. Mid-Winter Break // February 18 – February 22 1:30 – 5:30pm

WHAT AGES DOES COYOTE SERVE?

Coyote classes are suitable for 10 - 15 year olds. There are NO exceptions to the younger age range. Your student MUST be 10 to participate. During the summer we offer a handful of 13-16 year old courses. These are the ONLY exceptions to the rule.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?

All payments are due at the time of registration unless otherwise arranged.

If you have requested tuition assistance, arranged a payment plan, or bartered goods/services, you're required to follow the terms of your agreement as arranged with Coyote staff. If you’re not sure whether you’re set to go, just give us a call. We’re happy to help!

HOW DO I REQUEST TUITION ASSISTANCE AND PAYMENT PLANS?

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?

At the time of registration, $50/course becomes non-refundable. No refunds will be issued after January 25, 2019.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT IS TAKING A MORNING AND AN AFTERNOON CLASS?

Students participating in both morning and afternoon courses at Coyote are welcome to hang out here between each class. Please be sure to triple check location, as some courses are offsite.

CAN MY STUDENT LEAVE CAMPUS?

All students are required to stay on campus until their final class is complete. Please send your youth with appropriate snacks and gear to last them the full length of their Coyote day.

DOES COYOTE PROVIDE BEFORE OR AFTER CARE?

Coyote isn’t able to provide before or after care. Please be on time for drop off and pickup. Any students not picked up by the time the last staff member leaves will be escorted to Garfield Community Center to wait.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO SEND WITH MY STUDENT?

You’ll receive an email the week prior to the start of the course with class-specific details. Please be sure that you've added our email to your safe list! ([email protected])

WHAT IS THE ATTENDANCE POLICY?

Attendance is critical in Coyote Classes since each day builds upon the previous in order to complete a final project. Regular attendance is required. If you miss more than one session, you're at risk of not completing your project. Coyote does not offer makeup sessions and is not responsible for incomplete projects due to poor attendance. Please be sure to be here for every session to make the most of your time at Coyote!

DOES MY STUDENT NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE?

Most classes are suitable for both beginning and returning students. Any courses with a prerequisite are clearly noted. We’re unable to make exceptions to prerequisite requirements.

ARE ALL CLASSES HELD AT COYOTE?

9 ALTERNATIVE TUITION APPLICATION Option #1: Tuition Assistance Any student is eligible to receive tuition assistance for a course of their choosing. Additional assistance may be available under certain circumstances, at Coyote’s discretion. This form is required for all tuition assistance requests, but is NOT used in determining eligibility to participate in Coyote courses.
