Pastor’sLetter Dear Parishioners:

Congratulations to the graduates of Our Lady of Lourdes School. 33 students graduated on June 16. Many of them have been in the school for 11 years. If they have, they will have spent more time in Our Lady of Lourdes School that it will take them to graduate from high school, college and graduate school combined! We pray that the Lord will continue to bless them in their journey ahead in high school.

In addition, congratulations to all our high school graduates! Our local public schools celebrated graduation this week, and our Catholic high schools celebrated graduation over the past few weeks as well. While our graduates should be proud of their accomplishments, I would say that the best is yet to come. In a special way, I urge all graduates to listen to God’s call in their life. Many times at graduation, we ask the graduate, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would say the better question is to ask is: “What do you think GOD wants you to be when you grow up?” God has plan for each one of us; part of that plan may be a vocation to the priesthood and religious life. I urge all graduates to pray and ask for God’s guidance in their life for the future.

We also say “good-bye” this weekend to Fr. Lawrence. Fr. Lawrence is the chaplain at Southside Hospital and has been helping us over the past year. He will now be the new Associate Pastor at St. Mary’s Church in East Islip. A new priest will replace Fr. Lawrence at Southside Hospital, Fr. Sylvester. You will see Fr. Sylvester helping out as well. Also, we have another priest living in the rectory, Fr. “Freddy” Lozano. Fr. Freddy is a Spanish-speaking priest who will reside here but his work centers in the Spanish-speaking communities in Levittown and Bohemia. I thank Fr. Lawrence for all his assistance in the Parish and wish him well in his new assignment in East Islip!

As we begin the summer season, I encourage everyone NOT to take a vacation from Christ and his family the Church. Even when you are on vacation outside of the area, please make an effort to go to Mass. God’s grace does not take a vacation from us; let’s not take a vacation from Him! As I noted last week on the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), reception of the Eucharist is essential to drawing closer to Christ. Holiness is a life-long project and takes a spiritual discipline. It is not easy, BUT it is possible for everyone!

I also encourage everyone to come to the Rosary and Rally for Religious Freedom on Wednesday, June 28 at 6:00pm at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville. Bishop John Barres will lead us. Come, let us pray as a Diocese for Religious Freedom in our country. We need to be people of action and prayer regarding this issue. We can all do something! Please see the bulletin for other infor- mation about this important topic for peoples of all faiths. We should not be complacent about this issue.

Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

Gabriel’s Courage Perinatal Support Program ’s Courage is a family centered program for families who receive a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis during their pregnancy. The program offers a multidisciplinary team approach to care and support throughout pregnancy, birth and post birth. Gabriel’s Courage is a program of Catholic Health Services and Good Shepherd Hospice. This program offers hope, affirms life and provides an opportunity for the family to welcome their baby, as well as assisting in saying goodbye. Gabriel’s Courage is seeking financial support to continue this im- portant program. If you are interested in making a donation to Gabriel’s Courage, please contact Good Shepherd Hospice Development Office at 631-465-6350.

At times, infant burial can be challenging financially. Gabriel’s Courage seeks to honor the lives of these babies and support parents in their wishes to bury their child. A burial is the last act of parenting for some of our families. We ask that you consider donating resources for burials which could include financial support or donation of an available grave. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Peter Ryan, Director of Catholic Cemeteries, at 516-334-7990 ext. 109. Thank you for your support of this special program and the recipients in its care.

The Blessed Sacrament is taken to the altar after the 5:00pm Mass and will be exposed up to 9:50pm. Everyone is invited to spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament to offer prayers, petitions and thanksgiving to Jesus. Nocturnal Adoration will follow the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday, July 1, concluding with Benediction at 9:50pm. Please come and pray with us. All are invited and welcome. Bring a friend!

Growing with the Gospel the with Growing Sharing the Gospel

You are God’s special child. He knows all about you. He knows what you like to eat. He knows your favorite color. He knows how many teeth you have. He even knows how many hairs are on your head. No one in this world loves you as much as God loves you. Be sure to tell your friends

how much God loves them, too.

Mission for the Week

After you brush your hair, count the hairs in the brush. God knows how many hairs you lost!

Prayer

God, I thank you for loving me so much.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of your- self telling a friend about God’s love.
