  • A Study Investigating the Relaxation Effects of the Music Track Weightless by Marconi Union in Consultation with Lyz Cooper
A Study Investigating the Relaxation Effects of the Music Track Weightless by Marconi Union in consultation with Lyz Cooper RADOX SPA/MISCHIEF PR OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is twofold. Firstly to validate the claim that the new track ‘Weightless’ by Marconi Union (commissioned by Radox Spa) is more relaxing than other music tracks that are considered relaxing and secondly to compare the relaxation effects of a massage with the Radox Spa track. INTRODUCTION BY DR DAVID LEWIS - AUTHER OF ONE MINUTE STRESS MANAGER ‘Music has charms to sooth a savage breast,’ wrote the 17th century poet William Congreve, in his poem The Mourning Bride. This new study for Radox confirms the truth of his words. Certain pieces of music do indeed possess the power to calm even the most stressed out individuals by soothing frazzled minds and relaxing bodies. The study confirmed certain music has the capacity to lower heart rate, slow breathing and decrease levels of the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ in the blood. Other researchers have reported that music can also speed recovery from surgery and help overcome anxiety and depression. How can music exert such a powerful effect? Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions. When listening to music we engage both the logical left and artistic right sides of our brain, which is why it can exert surprising and positive benefits, not only in combating daily stress but also in aiding such mentally challenging activities as memorising, learning a language, focusing attention and developing physical coordination.

  • Our Lady of Good Counsel Novena April 17-26
Our Lady of Good Counsel Novena April 17-26 O Holy Virgin, to whose feet we are led by our anxious uncertainty in our search for and attainment of what is true and good, invoking you by the sweet title of Mother of Good Counsel, we beseech you to come to our assistance, when, along the road of this life, the darkness of error and of evil conspires towards our ruin by leading our minds and our hearts astray. O Seat of Wisdom and Star of the Sea, enlighten the doubtful and the erring, that they be not seduced by the false appearances of good; render them steadfast in the face of the hostile and corrupting influences of passion and of sin. O Mother of Good Counsel, obtain for us from your Divine Son a great love of virtue, and, in the hour of uncertainty and trial, the strength to embrace the way that leads to our salvation. If your hand sustains us, we shall walk unmolested along the path indicated to us by the life and words of Jesus, our Redeemer; and having followed freely and securely, even in the midst of this world’s strife, the Sun of Truth and Justice under your maternal Star, we shall come to the enjoyment of full and eternal peace with you in the haven of salvation. Amen. We pray this novena for the intention that families across our country, who desire an authentic Catholic education and culture for their children, will discover Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church & School and decide in faith to relocate and join our community.

  • A Cloud of Witnesses in the Orthodox West
A Cloud of Witnesses in the Orthodox West An Introduction to the Saints of the Orthodox Church in the West The Very Rev’d Nicholas R. Alford St. Gregory Orthodox Church Washington, DC Towards the end of the Sermon on the Mount, while warning of false prophets to come, our Lord says “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.” Ultimately the answer to the question of whether the Western Rite is Orthodox or not is answered by how if affects the lives of the men, women and children who live out their relationship with God in this manner. Does the Western Rite, like the Eastern Rite, lead people to become holy, to grow in their relationship with God? Is the Western Rite an expression of authentic Christianity that encourages people to become more like Christ? In answer to these questions we should look at the lives of some of the “cloud of witnesses” as the holy ones are called in the Epistle to the Hebrews. By their fruit you will know them. As we look at the expansion of Christianity into the West, we must start with what is now Italy. Rome, of course, was the capitol of the empire and was generally considered to 1 be the center of the world at the time. Jews had been living in Rome for nearly two hundred years before the birth of Christ. We know this because the Praetor Gnaeus Cornelius Hispanus tried to compel them to return to their homeland in 139BC.
