FROM THE PASTOR… Dear Parishioners, Many of you continue to inquire about Groy — a sign of how she befriended a large number of folks, especially parishioners here. As I previously mentioned in the bulletin, Adele has entered an assisted- living facility in Suffolk County, where her closest family members live nearby. This past Tuesday, I took some of our parishioners out there to visit her. Although she misses her neighborhood friends, she is adjusting very well to her new home. We were happy to see another group of parishioner-friends already there for a visit. See photo below, with Carol. Adele‟s room is ample and well-appointed, with homey touches of her former apartment (including her “doll-house” creations). She is actively engaged in the many (many!) daily activities of the residents, which include walking club, bingo, Catholic services, trips, etc. All her meals and personal needs are taken care of. Although she regrets the slipping of her memory, she seems very content and open to making new friends in a new place. The Senior-living atmosphere of the facility is immaculate and upbeat and friendly, and the care ap- pears to be very attentive. Although St. Raphael‟s regrets the loss of a dear parishioner, we know that Adele is now where she needs to be. We took Adele out to a nearby Friday‟s for lunch, which , of course, was capped by her number-one favorite des- sert (ice cream). We delivered the giant card that so many of you signed, and she was very appreciative. Adele also said she would be happy to hear from you. If you would like to drop her a note, our rectory receptionist, Henry, can give you her address. Let‟s all keep her in our prayers.

JOIN THE FAMILY MASS CHOIR...

We are ready to start a new year for St. Raphael‟s Family Mass Choir and we need your tal- ents. The children and adults working with the choir have done an excellent job over the recent years and have made significant contributions to the liturgical life of St. Raphael‟s parish. Children in grades 2 and above who are ready and willing to sing are encouraged to join us. We would also be interested in having any high school students participate. The practices are held one or two Mon- day‟s a month at 7:00PM and the choir will be singing at the monthly Family Masses, Christmas Eve, First Communion Mass, Confirmation and other appropriate occasions. Dates and other specific in- formation will follow. The only requirements are that you attend practice and Mass and behave appropriately. If you have any questions regarding the choir please feel free to call the rectory or call Joe Becker at 718-392-3008 or email Joe at [email protected].
