Gospel Meditation May 5th, 2019 Third Sunday of Easter. John 21: 1-19 Every one of the Resurrection appearances has a lesson for us to learn, Mary of Magdala learns she cannot cling to the past. The disciples on the road to Emmaus learn they cannot run from their troubles but must face reality. Thomas learns to overcome doubt, fears. So, what does this story of Peter say? On one level it is a story of redemption. Peter had denied Jesus 3 times. So now as the leader of the Church he is the one to proclaim his devotion 3 times. An early example of “Church-PR- spin? But there is more here, so much, much more --- To love is to open my heart, to make myself vulnerable. To love is to experience the highest of the highs, but to know the potential for pain. It hurts deeply because we love deeply. God made himself vulnerable by asking, not demanding, love. We are to accept or reject, but if we say “yes” to Divine Love, everything changes, the old ways are forgotten and we can start anew. Will we care enough to change our lives by saying: YES LORD, I LOVE YOU! Easter Blessings, Fr. Aidan 2 Palm Beach Gardens , Florida May 5th, 2019 Second Sunday of Easter. Diocese of Palm Beach Office of 9995 North Military Trail • P.O. Box 109650 THE BISHOP Palm Beach Gardens, Florida 33410-9650 (561) 775-9595 Fax (561) 775-7035 May 4, 2019 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: As we celebrate the 53rd World Communications Day, the theme chosen by our Holy Father comes from St Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, “We are members of one another” (Eph 4:25), From Network Communities to Human Communities. In his message for World Communications Day, Pope Francis references the internet and the “communities” formed by the various models of social communication. The Pope invites us to model ourselves on the original “network”, the Holy Trinity. “This is the network we want, a network created not to entrap, but to liberate, to protect a communion of people who are free. The Church herself is a network woven together by Eucharistic communion, where unity is based not on “likes”, but on the truth, on the “Amen”, by which each one clings to the Body of Christ, and welcomes others (Vatican, January 24, 2019). On the weekend of May 11 & 12 the diocese will have a special collection for the Catholic Communi- cation Campaign (CCC). Half of the CCC collection will fund the national communication efforts of the U.S. Bishops. The remainder funds our diocesan communications projects like the television Mass, the Florida Catholic newspaper, our diocesan website, electronic newsletters, and various forms of social media. Our special collection On May 11 & 12 also supports Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., the national university of the Catholic Church. As the only institution of higher education in the U.S. founded by our bishops and chartered by the Vatican, the university educates clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across the nation. Because of your support of the CCC and Catholic University collections, millions of faithful will have the opportunity to deepen their faith through media resources and Catholic education. With gratitude for your continued generosity and every prayerful wish, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito Bishop of Palm Beach NOTE TO PASTORS: PLEASE PUBLISH THIS LETTER IN THE PARISH BULLETIN OR HAVE IT READ AT ALL MASSES ON THE WEEKEND OF MAY 4 & 5. 6 Palm Beach Gardens , Florida May 5th, 2019 Second Sunday of Easter. Did you know? Over a hundred muscles in your body work together for you to sing or speak. They include the muscle of the tongue, lips, neck, chest, and jaw. Good singer bad singer: We classify someone with no singing coordination as a bad singer. It is important to understand that no one is born with the ability to be a good singer. This is something that must be developed. Most so-called ‘bad’ singers have great vocal ranges and can discern musical notes effectively. Singing is just like walking and everyone can walk if they try. A ‘bad’ singer can become great with some exercise and perseverance. Every singer needs to build the right relationships to develop this ability. If you want to learn more, become a better performer, or simply lose the title of bad singing then come join us. Practice makes perfect! 8 Palm Beach Gardens , Florida May 5th, 2019 Second Sunday of Easter. Hospitality Ministry ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED!
