Pastor

Dear Parishioners:

Our “First Holy Communion” season has ended; I would like to thank Sr. Diane and all the catechists Letter s for preparing our children for this wonderful sacrament. I also ask for your prayers so that these same children will receive the Eucharist each and every week and truly become the children of God.

Today, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. On Pentecost Sunday the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, frightened and hiding from the authorities, and transformed these men into the greatest missionaries the world has ever seen.

Here are some quotes about Pentecost:

Bethlehem was God with us; Calvary was God for us and Pentecost is God in us. Reverend Robert Baer

Pentecost is a celebration of God…a celebration of God’s power…a celebration of God’s desire to empower us and to dwell within us. Mark Hart

Christians have no business thinking that the good life consists mainly in not doing bad things… in short, Pentecost makes it clear that nothing is so fatal to Christianity as indifference. Reverend Willian Sloane Coffin

The Church was made manifest to the world on the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit…the gift of the Spirit ushers in a new era - the age of the Church – during which Christ manifests, makes present and communicates His work of salvation through the liturgy of the Church. Catechism of the Catholic Church

There is a connection between Pentecost and the Sacrament of Confirmation. When we receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is as if we are experiencing our own individual Pentecost. Just as the Holy Spirit transformed the disciples on Pentecost Sunday, so too the Holy Spirit desires to transform us on our Confirmation day. For that transformation to take place, however, we need to be open and receptive to the grace that God wants to bestow upon us.

On this Pentecost Sunday, let’s you and I re-commit ourselves to the Lord and to truly live out both our Baptism and our Confirmation! Let us join in with the Prayer to the Holy Spirit: Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of the faithful and kindle them the fire of Your love. O Holy Spirit, Spirit of truth, come into our hearts. Shed the brightness of Your light to all nations that they may be of one faith pleasing to You. Amen.

Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

RESTORE OUR CONVENT

As of April 13, 2018:

Parish Goal: $442,840 Amount Pledged: $212,421 Total Paid to Date: $119,752 Number of Pledges: 487

As members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, we are faced with a challenge that we can only overcome together. As you know from the recent mailing, there are urgent maintenance needs at our convent. It is important that each and every member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish family participates in this worthy project. It is only by our generosity in mak- ing a sacrificial gift that we will be able to accomplish our objectives. We have established a goal of $442,000 in order to accomplish our objectives. While this seems like a large amount, participation by all members of the parish family will make this goal not only attainable, but one that we can surpass. If every family pledges $400, after a $40 down payment, your sacrifice would be $1 a day for one year. We can all do that. If you are able to pledge a higher amount, please do so. We’re asking for equal sacrifice, not equal giving.

Growing with the the with Growing Sharing the Gospel

One day, one of your best friends may move away and you won’t see him every day. You can still stay close to your friend by talking on the phone, writing letters, or sending e-mail messages. Jesus knew He would be leaving. He would not see His friends every day. Jesus promised to send His spirit to them. When they were confused, the Spirit would show them the truth. When they missed Him, Jesus would send them messages by the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit, Jesus could

always stay close to His friends.

Mission for the Week Before you sit down to read a story, ask God to send His Spirit to help you. When you listen carefully to God’s word, the Spirit can send you a special message from Jesus!

Prayer

Dear God, Thank You for sending the Spirit so I can stay close to Jesus, too

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of God’s Spirit whispering in your ear.
