Pastor’sLetter

Dear Parishioners:

As I write this letter, I ask for your prayers for a variety of intentions.

Our “First Holy Communion” season will end next Saturday. I would like to thank Sr. Diane and all the catechists for preparing our children for this wonderful sacrament. I also ask for your prayers so that these same children will receive the Eucharist each and every week.

I ask for your continued prayers for persecuted Christians throughout the world, especially in the Middle East and North Africa. As you know, we have been offering a special intention every Sunday for our persecuted brothers and sisters throughout the world. Please pray for their continued safety from Muslim extremist groups like ISIS, etc. At times, it appears as if we are back in Roman times with the persecution.

As you know, Fr. Bob will be leaving us at the end of June after 9 priestly years of service. He will be going to minister at Christ the King parish in Commack. We are still waiting to see who will be coming here to Our Lady of Lourdes. We will be having a “farewell” celebration for Fr. Bob on SUNDAY, JUNE 14. Fr. Bob will celebrate the 12:30pm Mass with a reception to follow. Please save the date! In the meantime, please pray for Fr. Bob as he transitions to a new ministry and pray that Our Lady of Lourdes receives a worthy Associate Pastor as well.

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. As a country, it is an opportunity to pray for our men and women in the Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives in defense of our country. Too often these holidays like Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, 4th of July, etc. have been reduced to “shopping day sales.” We need to tell our children and grandchildren about our freedoms, in- cluding the freedom of religion.

Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

PS: Don’t forget the Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA). Currently, our Parish is at 80% of our goal. Remember when we reach 80% in paid pledges of our goal, our Parish receives all the monies collected after that point. Please make a pledge (there are envelopes at the doors of the church) and help both the good work of the Diocese and the good work we do here at Our Lady of Lourdes.

A heart-felt “thank you” to all those who have been collecting the “BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION.” Since September, we have collected over $1,500 in BOX TOPS. I encourage everyone to make the effort to collect them and drop them off at the church. They are found on a variety of items, especially Cheerios, Progresso Soup and Kleenex. As I say many times, it is free money so let’s everyone take advantage of it.

Let’s pray together and celebrate all that Fr. Bob has done and been for us at Our Lady of Lourdes

Fr. Bob’s Farewell Gathering Sunday, June 14 at the 12:30pm Mass

followed by light refreshments and fellowship in the School Cafeteria

Calling all High School Graduates! Are you graduating from High School in June? Are you going away to college? If so, stay connected with the Church! There is a group called “Newman Connection”, that reaches out to college Freshmen on the campus of the colleges they are attending. It is a great opportunity to stay connected with the Church.

Simply send us here at the parish by May 31: name of student, name of college that they will be attending (with city and state listed), home address of student. This group will for- ward the information to the Catholic community on that college campus. The local Catholic college community will then get in touch with you when you arrive at the college.

It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other people as well.

Growing with the the with Growing Sharing the Gospel One day, one of your best friends may move away, and you won't see him every day. You can still stay close to your friend by talking on the phone, writing letters, or sending e-mail messages. Jesus knew he would be leaving. He would not see his friends every day. Jesus promised to send his Spirit to them. When they were confused, the Spirit would show them the truth. When they missed him, Jesus would send them messages by the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit, Jesus could always stay

close to his friends.

Mission for the Week

Before you sit down to read a story, ask God to send his Spirit to help you. When you listen carefully to God's word, the Spirit can send you a special message from Jesus!

Prayer

God, thank you for sending your Spirit so I can stay close to Jesus, too.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of God's Spirit whispering in your ear.
