Charles Burgoon Wednesday, March 11 Each year as Lent begins, a lot of old reactions take place. I think Lent is 7:00 a.m. Sharon Angello supposed to be a time when I do something to please God. I know that Thursday, March 12 really isn’t the meaning of Lent, but it has been kind of ingrained in me 7:00 a.m. Patricia D. Vogt and I imagine in many of us. Friday, March 13 7:00 a.m. Chuck Korpics A Lenten Preface, the prayer before the Holy, Holy, Holy says, 8:00 a.m. Mary Ann Barry “Each year you bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts and prepare Saturday, March 14 with joy for the paschal feast. By more faithful prayer and works of charity 5:00 p.m. Joyce O’Neill Flynn and by celebrating the mysteries of our rebirth, we are led to the fullness Sunday, March 15 of grace as your sons and daughters.” 7:30 a.m. Pro Populo 9:00 a.m. Charles & Marie Hayden This sets the tone for Lent and what God can do with us rather than what 11:00 a.m. Heidenfelder Family we can do for God. We are asking God to cleanse our minds and hearts as 5:00 p.m. Hank Luepke we prepare with joy, joy for the high feast days to come. It is the “fullness of God’s grace” that leads us “eagerly intent” on prayer to the saving mysteries that have made us “born again”. I think you get the spirit and Lenten Resources promise of Lenten observance. Develop your spiritual life and rela- tionship with God by focusing on Pray, Rather than what I give up maybe I need to see what I receive. By being Fast and Give! Use websites and apps more intent on prayer and works of charity I discover the fullness of grace- to optimize your Lenten practices. God’s life with me. By experiencing the Readings and Liturgies of Lent I am reliving the mysteries of my rebirth and salvation. Maybe this is what (Links are provided ‘I do” during Lent and this gets me closer to experiencing what God wants on the ucitylourdes.org website) to give me, rather than what I try to give God. Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish | 3 Second Sunday of Lent March 8, 2020 Rediscover the Saints - Week 2 Chapters 1 - 5 The Saints are people who chose to live lives of boldness and passion as they continually sought opportuni- ties to be the person God created them to be. Let’s continue our weekly endeavor to rediscover the saints and how they can lead us to that relationship with God. Read a chapter every other day this week; take time to think and reflect on our lives as saints. St. Augustine: Augustine led a life of self-indulgence and promiscuity, persistently rejecting the Christian faith, eloquently arguing against the Church’s teachings and following the duality of Manicheanism which disputed the power and omnipotence of God. However, under the instruction of St. Ambrose and through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, Augustine converted to Christianity and became a Bishop and prolific writer on faith and morals, the human condition and God’s love and forgiveness. Reflection: What do you believe about your past that is keeping you from your future? & In what areas of your life have you abandoned God? Why? & Did you have a turning point in your life, like St. Augustine? Do you still need one now? Walter: There is nothing as miraculous, empowering, humbling or terrifying as becoming a parent. In the first moments of the new life, now our responsibility and privilege, source of joy and heartache, we can catch the slightest glimmer of the overwhelming, all-encompassing love that God has for us. Find a quiet place and allow God to love you. Experience that of which our love is but a shadow. Reflection: Have you ever allowed yourself to rest in God’s love? & In what ways does God show you the pow- er of his love? & When were you first drawn into a relationship with God? & Are you being called into a deeper relationship with him now? Irenaeus: “The Glory of God is man fully alive.” These words of St. Irenaeus, who lived in the second century, are relevant and revealing even today. God is concerned with all aspects of our lives - physical, emotional, intel- lectual and spiritual. When we accept the invitation to be fully alive, we find ourselves in the company of a God who meets us where we are and walks with us through our lives.

THE FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF OUR LADY HEALTH SYSTEM A BRIEF HISTORY TABLE OF CONTENTS Prologue Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Brief History The Sisters Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System The Beginning Years St. Francis Our Lady of the Lake Our Lady of Lourdes The Growth Years St. Francis Our Lady of the Lake Our Lady of Lourdes The Development of a Corporate Structure Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady The Haiti Project Appendix The Congregation The Sisters The Administrators 2 FOREWORD Catholic communities of Sisters devoted to caring for the sick were instrumental in developing the hospital system in America. The achievements are many and the sacrifices they made were often unbelievable. Perhaps, one of the most famous was the ministry of Mother Marianne of Molakai, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis. She gave herself in service to the lepers of Hawaii, serving for 29 years until her death. Through the efforts of communities of Catholic Sisters, one or more hospitals were developed in every major city of the U.S. The first group to arrive was the French Ursulines who came to New Orleans in 1727. They opened the first Catholic hospital in New Orleans in 1728. Countless communities of Catholic Sisters followed them. Few Sisters are famous. Most Sisters lived and died obscurely, secure in their belief in Our Lord Jesus Christ, giving themselves freely and willingly to the care of the sick. The Franciscan Sisters of Calais, the subject of this publication, came to the U.S. in 1911. The publication is a brief history of their ministry in Louisiana.

The Holy See LE PELERINAGE DE LOURDESENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XII WARNING AGAINST MATERIALISM ON THE CENTENARY OF THE APPARITIONS AT LOURDES TO THE CARDINALS, ARCHBISHOPS, AND BISHOPS OF FRANCE IN PEACE AND COMMUNION WITH THE APOSTOLIC SEE Beloved Sons and Venerable Brethren, Greetings and Apostolic Benediction. Deep in our soul are profound and pleasant memories of the pilgrimage to Lourdes which We had the privilege of making when We went to preside, in the name of Our Predecessor, Pius XI, over the Eucharistic and Marian celebrations marking the close of the Jubilee of the Redemption. 2. We are particularly pleased, therefore, to learn that, on the initiative of the Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, this Marian city is preparing an appropriate celebration for the centenary of the apparitions of the Immaculate Virgin at the grotto of Massabielle, and that an international committee has been set up for this purpose under the presidency of His Eminence Eugene Cardinal Tisserant, Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals. 3. We wish to join with you, Beloved Sons and Venerable Brothers, in thanking God for the great favor granted your country, and for the many graces He has bestowed on multitudes of pilgrims during the past century. 4. We wish to invite all Our children to renew in this jubilee year their confident and generous devotion to her who, in the words of Saint Pius X, deigned to establish at Lourdes "the seat of her immense kindness."[1] 5. Every Christian land is a Marian land; there is not a nation redeemed in the blood of Christ which does not glory in proclaiming Mary its Mother and Patroness.
