The Sentinels Space data for Europe's environment and security

The Copernicus dedicated space component is formed by five missions called the Sentinels. The Sentinels provide different kinds of data, such as radar and multispectral imaging instruments for land, ocean and atmospheric monitoring to support applications in the Copernicus thematic areas: Land, Marine, Atmosphere, Emergency Management, Security and Climate Change.

The first Sentinel-1, -2 and -3 satellites are expected to be ready for launch in 2014, and will be followed by the other family members. Sentinels are designed for seven years of life in , ensuring continued and stable data provision in the next decades. The launch of recurrent units is already planned in the .
