FIGHT RULE AND ADMINISTRATION

Rule 4 Definitions SECTION 18 FIGHTING

Fighting is a flagrant act and can occur when the ball is dead or live. Fighting includes, but is not limited to combative acts such as:

ART. 1 . . . An attempt to strike, punch or kick by using a fist, hands, arms, legs or feet regardless of whether contact is made.

ART. 2 . . . An attempt to instigate a fight by committing an unsporting act that causes a person to retaliate by fighting

SECTION 19 ART. 4 . . . A flagrant foul may be a personal or of a violent or savage nature, or a technical noncontact foul which displays unacceptable conduct. It may or may not be intentional. If personal, it involves, but is not limited to violent contact such as: striking, kicking and kneeing. If technical, it involves dead-ball contact or noncontact at any time which is extreme or persistent, vulgar or abusive conduct. Fighting is a flagrant act.

Rule 10 Fouls and Penalties ART. 5 . . . Leave the confines of the bench during a fight or when a fight may break out.

NOTE: The head coach may enter the court in the situation where a fight may break out – or has broken out – to prevent the situation from escalating.

PENALTY: (Art. 5) Flagrant foul, disqualification of individual offender, but only one technical-foul penalty is administered regardless of the number of offenders. This one foul is also charged indirectly to the head coach. If the head coach is an offender, an additional flagrant technical foul is charged directly to the coach and penalized. When a simultaneous technical foul(s) by opponents occurs, the free throws are not awarded when the penalties offset. NOTE: A single flagrant foul or the second technical foul charged to any bench personnel, other than the head coach, results in disqualification of the offender. A single flagrant foul, the second direct technical foul or the third technical (any combination of direct or indirect) charged to the head coach results in disqualification and . Ejected adult bench personnel shall leave the vicinity (out of sight and sound) of the playing area immediately and are prohibited from any further contact (direct or indirect) with the team during the remainder of the game. Failure to comply with the rules of ejection may result in the game being forfeited.

a. Disqualification – All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified a. Indirect Technical – The coach of each team that had players leave the bench area is assessed ONLY 1 indirect technical foul no matter how many bench personnel leave the bench area and don’t participate in the fight. c. Free Throws - If the number leaving the bench for each team is equal no free throws are awarded, and the ball is put in play at the of interruption Total Number for Team A and Team B Do Not Equal and they do not participate in the fight

a. Disqualification – All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified b. Indirect Technical – The coach of each team that had players leave the bench area is assessed ONLY 1 indirect technical foul no matter how many bench personnel leave the bench area and don’t participate in the fight. c. Free Throws – If the number leaving the bench for each team is unequal a maximum of two free throws are awarded to the offended team, followed by a division line throw-in opposite the table. d. Example (Team A has 1 leave bench area and Team B has 4 leave bench area) but don’t participate in the fight. Disqualification: All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified. Indirect Technical Both coaches had players leave the bench and not participate and will be assessed a maximum of 1 indirect technical. Free-Throw Team A will shoot a maximum of 2 free throws for the difference in the number of personnel leaving the bench and not participating in the fight.

Indirect Technical – The coach is assessed 1 indirect technical foul for each bench personnel leaving the bench area and participates in the fight. c. Free Throws - If the number leaving the bench and participating in the fight for each team is equal, no free throws are awarded, and the ball is put in play at the point of interruption.

Example (Team A has 2 leave bench area and Team B has 2 leave bench area) and they all participate in the fight. Disqualification: All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified. Indirect Technical Team A Coach is assessed 2 indirect technical fouls; Team B Coach is assessed 2 indirect technical fouls. Both coaches loose the coaching box privilege. Free-Throw The number leaving the bench for each team is equal; no free throws Play is resumed and the ball is put in play at the point of interruption Total Number for Team A and Team B Do Not Equal and participate in the fight

a. Disqualification – All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified b. Indirect Technical – The coach is assessed 1 indirect technical foul for each bench personnel leaving the bench area and participates in the fight. c. Free Throws – A set of Free-Throws (2-shots) for the difference in the number of personnel leaving the bench.

Example (Team A has 2 leave bench area and Team B has 4 leave bench area) and they all participate in the fight. Disqualification: All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified. Indirect Technical Team A Coach is assessed 2 indirect technical fouls; Team B Coach is assessed 4 indirect technical fouls and ejected. Both coaches loose the coaching box privilege. (The assistant that replaces Coach B is now the head Coach for B and does not have coach box privileges. Free-Throw Team A shoots 4 free throws; 4-2 = 2 *(2 free throws for each non corresponding bench personnel)

a. Disqualification – All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified b. Indirect Technical – The coach of each team that had players leave the bench area is assessed ONLY 1 indirect technical foul no matter how many bench personnel leave the bench area. c. Free Throws - If the number leaving the bench for each team is equal no free throws are awarded, and the ball is put in play at the point of interruption

Example: Team A has 2 leave bench area and participate and Team B has 2 leave bench area but don’t participate in the fight. Disqualification: All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified. Indirect Technical Team A coach is assessed 2 indirect technical fouls because team A had two player that participated. Team B coach is assessed 1 indirect technical because none of his players participated in the fight. Both coaches loose the coaching box privilege. Free-Throw No free throws because the number leaving the bench equal, it does not matter that some participated and some did not, the is that the same number left the bench, so the flagrant technical fouls cancel each other out. The fact that some participated in the fight only come into play when determining the number of indirect technical assessed to the coaches.

Total Number for Team A and Team B do not Equal (Team A 2 and Team B 3) a. Disqualification – All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified b. Indirect Technical – The coach of each team that had players leave the bench area and not participate is assessed ONLY 1 indirect technical foul no matter how many bench personnel leave the bench area and do not participate in the fight. The coach of the team that had players leave the bench and participate in the fight is assessed an indirect technical foul for each player. c. Free Throws – A set of Free-Throws (2-shots) for the difference in the number of personnel leaving the bench.

Example: Team A has 2 leave bench area and do not participate in the fight Team B has 3 leave bench area and 2 participate and 1 does not. Disqualification: All personnel that left the bench is assessed a flagrant technical and disqualified. Indirect Technical Team A Coach is assessed 1 indirect technical fouls because none of his players participated in the fight; Team B Coach is assessed 3 indirect technical fouls and ejected; Team B had 2 players participate (2 indirects to coach) and 1 player did not participate but the coach receives an indirect technical foul for that player leaving the bench and not participating. Both coaches loose the coaching box privilege. (The assistant that replaces Coach B is now the head Coach for B and does not have coach box privileges. Free-Throw Team A shoots 2 free throws; 3-2 = 1*(2 free throws for each non corresponding bench personnel that left the bench). The fact that some participated in the fight only come into play when determining the number of indirect technical assessed to the coaches.
