Intramurals 5-on-5 Rules of Play

National Federation High School rules govern all play. General Rules 1. Game time is forfeit time, unless a team has the minimum number of players to start the game (4). Teams may finish the game with less than 4 players. If a team has at least 4 players at the scheduled start time, they must start the game. Any late arriving player may only enter the game after checking in with the or scorekeeper of the game. 2. Each game will consist of two 20 min halves. The clock will run continuously (except for timeouts and injuries) except for the last 2 minutes of the second half when it will stop for all fouls, violations, and timeouts. a. The game clock will be stopped at every whistle in the final 2 minutes of the 2nd half if a team is trailing by 15 or less points. b. Mercy Rule: If a team leads by 30 points at any time in the 2nd half, or by 15 or more in the final 2 minutes of the 2nd half, the game is over. c. In case of a tie (playoffs only): An additional 3 minutes will be played without a change of baskets. A starts the period. The clock will stop on every whistle during the last 1 of each overtime period. One timeout will be granted to each team in the overtime with no carryover of time-outs from the regular periods. All other game rules apply in overtime. d. Halftime: Halftime will consist of a 3 min break. If both teams and referees are ready beforehand, the 2nd half may begin prior. 3. The game will start with a jump ball between any 2 opposing players. Thereafter, any jump/held ball situation will alternate out of bounds at the nearest spot as determined by the Official. The 2nd half starts

with possession at mid court by the team that did not win the last alternate possession. 4. Teams are allowed two 30 second timeouts per game and one per overtime. Timeouts do not carry over and may be called by team players or coach from the bench/court 5. No free throws are awarded for a non shooting common until a team reaches their 7th team foul per half. Upon a team reaching their 7th team foul, the opposing team will shoot a 1-and-1. When a team commits their 10th foul in a half, the opposing team will be awarded 2 free throws after a foul is called until the half is complete. 6. A player will be immediately ejected for any . Excessive swinging of the elbows will result in a foul if contact is made with an opponent. Excessively swinging the elbows with the intent to injure or harm another player will result in a if there is any contact with an opponent. A technical foul can be called even if contact is not made; at the Officials discretion. 7. Any flagrant or technical foul called by the Official results in 2 attempts by any member of the offended team. Intentional fouls called by the Official will result in 2 free throw attempts by the player violated. In either case, the possession is always maintained. a. If any 1 player receives 2 technical fouls in the same game, he/she will automatically be ejected b. If a team collectively receives 3 technical fouls in the same game, the team will lose the game and be charged with a forfeit. 8. A player who is bleeding, has an open wound, or has an excessive amount of blood on his/her uniform shall be directed to leave the game. The player shall not return until the next opportunity and the bleeding is stopped, the wound is covered, or the uniform has been changed. If the clock is stopped due to an injury, the injured player must leave the game and shall not re- enter until the next opportunity to substitute, unless a time out is called and the player is able to return before the time out has expired. 9. Players checking into the game must report to the scorekeeper before doing so. They must inform the scorekeeper of their number and then wait to be beckoned into the game by the official. Players/spectators may not

sit at or on the scorer’s table, nor may they stand such that it blocks the view of the scorekeeper.

General Information  All Intramural participants MUST have a valid HCC/Lincoln Student ID, not only to enter the FRC, but to participate in the Intramural game  All games will be played at the Fitness and Rec Center (FRC). Teams are expected to report to their court and check in 10 minutes before game time.  NO tobacco, food, or beverages (except for water with a secure top) allowed on the courts in the FRC  Intramurals will provide game balls only. By mutual consent, teams may use their own ball. If there is free time prior to game time, you must bring your own ball or check one out at the Front desk in order to shoot around.  EJECTIONS: Any form of physical combat (punching, kicking, etc) at any time during one’s use of the FRC during at Intramural Event will result an immediate , in addition to being subject to the repercussions of the Student Code of Conduct. It is the responsibility of the Team Captain, to make sure ejected players leave the area. Ejected players must be out of sight and sound within 2 minutes of the ejection or a forfeit may be declared.  Sportsmanship: All team members, coaches, and spectators are subject to sportsmanship evaluation by the Official and Scorekeeper. Captains will have the opportunity to see their team’s sportsmanship total at the end of each game. Teams will receive a 0-5 ranking after each game. A team must average a 3.5 on the season to be eligible for the playoffs.  Forfeits: After 1 forfeit, the team’s captain will be notified that any subsequent forfeits will result in a dismissal from the league. Failure to have the minimum number of players (4) at game time is an automatic forfeit and the loss. If your team is aware that you won’t have enough players, please call Josh at 268-8416 before 2pm on game day.

 Rosters: Changes may be made to the roster up until the start of the team’s 3rd scheduled game. Changes MUST be recorded on the official roster form and approved by the Intramural Supervisor. All player information must be included for any player to be eligible to participate. After the 3rd scheduled game, NO additions or changes will be allowed.  Spectators: We ask that individuals who come to watch sit against the wall and away from the court. Anyone being disrespectful or breaking any FRC Policies may be asked to leave. In the event that they don’t comply, Security will be called and BOTH teams will receive a forfeit.  Hanging on the rim will result in an immediate ejection!! Dunking is allowed, however hanging on the rim will result in an ejection.
