Dear Parishioners,

All of us have special intentions, petitions, and requests when we pray. Most often, our prayers are offered for family, friends, and ourselves. Certainly, it is good for us to lift up our prayers to the Lord.

I would like to ask all of you to take time to remember the members of our parish family in your prayers regu- larly. I am not talking about when we remember them at Mass, but rather, when we are praying privately.

At any given time in a parish, there are numerous people sick at home, in hospitals, rehabs, and nursing homes. There are numerous individuals and families caring for their sick and dying loved ones and mourn- ing the loss of their loved ones. There are also many individual families dealing with various trials, tribula- tions and stress. All of them need our prayers.

These times are especially difficult for many, from our children to our Seniors, due to the Pandemic and the suffering, pain and isolation. Also, due to the unrest in our nation and the world. We need “Divine Assis- tance.” We ask God to be with each and all of us.

As a parish family, we are called to support each other. Prayer is one of the best ways we can assist others in their need. We lift them up to the Lord and entrust them to His care. I know that those in need are always grateful for our prayers.

Make it a habit when you pray, to lift up the members of our parish family who are in need. Your prayers will be appreciated. You too, will appreciate knowing when you are in need, that your fellow parishioners are praying for you. This is what we are about as a community of Faith.

God bless us all! Fr. Citino Finance Parish Prayer Chain

Dear Friends in Christ,

A blessed New Year of 2021 and the Year of , Patron of the Universal Church. As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, we can reflect upon the Gospel of St. Luke, noting that, “his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him” (Lk 2:23), in particular at what Simeon said in his canticle to God, when he referred to Jesus as the “salvation which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel” and as a “sign that is spoken against” (cf. Lk 2:30-34). , REDEMPTORIS CUSTOS, JOHN PAUL ll, 1989.

This letter brings attention to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, observed February 2, celebrating Christ as the Light of the World and World Day of Consecrated Life, as Saint John Paul ll perceived conse- crated persons to be “lights for the world,” bringing Christ to others. In his , Lumen Fidei, Pope Francis writes: “Those who have opened their hearts to God’s love, heard his voice and received his light cannot keep this gift to themselves.”

Our world today has need for bright and shining lights; true witnesses of dedicated and committed lives that serve the Church and the local civic communities. We need also the weapons of holiness, the sacraments and prayer. Pope Francis, in his Apostolic Exhortation, Gaudete et exultate, says: “Holiness is this, Jesus himself comes and tells us once more, serenely yet firmly, “Do not be afraid” (Mk 6:50). These words enable us to go forth and serve with the same courage that the Holy Spirit stirred up in the Apostles, impelling them to proclaim Jesus Christ. How often we are tempted to keep close to the shore! Yet the Lord calls us to put out into the deep and let down our nets (Lk 5:4). He bids us to spend out lives in his service...to put all our charisms at the service of others.” We have experienced this gift of service from the many consecrated men and women who serve in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

This year, we will observe World Day of Consecrated Life on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at he Cathedral Ba- silica of Saints Peter and Paul with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 11:00 AM. I invite all consecrated men and women to participate. Following the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there will be a light reception in Drexel Hall. Please join us in celebrating this special day.

May the gift of vocations to the Consecrated Life continue to call us forth in mission to preach the Gospel through word and deed. May Saint Joseph, our Guardian and Protector, intercede for each of us to be right- eous and just, and lights for all whom we meet and serve as we celebrate World Day of Consecrated Life. A Blessed Feast of the Presentation of the Lord!

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Archbishop Nelson J. Perez, D.D. Archbishop of Philadelphia

PREP (Parish Religious Education Program)

Dear Families,

In today’s Gospel, we continue to hear about Jesus’ preaching and healing. By now, so many more believe in Jesus, so when Simon’s mother in law was very sick, they went to Jesus for help. Jesus went to her and no sooner was He there, that she was better. The news spread and others went to Jesus for help. Eventually, Jesus went to a quiet place to pray but there was no rest for Him, as people continued to seek Him out. As tired as He was, Jesus knew His purpose and continued to preach and heal others. May we have the drive that Jesus had to help others even when we are tired and want to give up.

Miss Michele

Look at the mixed up letters and find a word relat- ed to this week’s Gospel. Then write the letter in the numbered box in the space below with the same number. Then fill in the blank to the sen- tence with that word. You can color the picture and give it to someone as you explain this week’s Gospel to them.
