Dance Fever Disco

We got out our boogie shoes on February 1st. What a night! DJ Jamez from Cloud 9 Entertainment kept the dance floor hopping with all his records spinning. The room was filled with balloons, sparkles, disco lights and people of all ages. It is a great site to see all different ages interacting with each other from the very young to the most mature. The dance moves shown on the floor were reminiscent from the 1970’s. We even had our own Soul Train. Some of the guests pulled out all the stops by dressing up - from the blue eyeshadow, white suits, feathered hair and of course the groovy colors. Thanks to Helene LaRussa for making it the brightest event of the year.

Let’s see which era we celebrate next --

IACL Lifetime Member ANNA IGIDA IADIPAOLO 09/24/1932 – 01/25/2019

Remembering IACL Member, Anna Igida Iadipaolo (Ferrari)

You might have known her as Anna or maybe Igida. The students of Livonia Public Schools knew her as Mrs. Iadipaolo. Whatever name you used for her, she would answer with a joyful ‘Hello’ and a great big smile. That was Anna’s style. Always working and always with a positive attitude, whether she was managing Livonia Public Schools kitchens or the St. Mary’s Hospital coffee shop, or busy in her own kitchen cooking for her ever-growing family.

Like many, Anna and her family emigrated from Vicalvi, Italia, Provinca di Frosinone, in 1952 to follow their dream for a better life and escape post WWII hardships. Her family settled in Sarnia, Ontario, where Anna quickly found employment in hotel housekeeping services. In 1954, Anna’s friend Lina introduced her to her brother Gerardo Iadipaolo of Birmingham, MI. Anna and Gerardo fell in love, married and re-settled in Detroit to start a family. Anna work especially hard while raising her 6 six children. She wanted more than to just get by. She had great common sense, great business sense, tireless work ethic and unyielding drive. She was very frugal and worked multiple jobs to earn enough money care for her family. She went on to earned enough to purchase several properties in Michigan, and even New Mexico. She educated herself and became savvy with real estate and home construction. Anna and her husband built 2 beautiful homes, contracting many IACL members for much of the work.

Real Estate and building homes were only part time ventures for Anna. Her #1 passion was in the kitchen. Anna loved to cook. And if you ask anybody who sat at her table, she was good at it. Her talent was cooking for the masses. So, naturally she was destined for career like the one with Livonia Public Schools food service. She was hired as a cook and quickly impressed with her style of cooking, speed and efficiency. Not to mention her recipes. Her specialties were her soups, breads and pastries. Anna’s recipes became popular. She became so valuable, they often rotated her to other schools to set up processes and train personnel. She was loved by the students and faculty at all the schools. Ultimately, the school system would recruit her to manage the LPS Central Kitchen, where she was responsible for all prepared foods and recipes.

Anna and Gerardo retired and found their final dream house on a lake, where her family would gather regularly for 15 years. She continued to cook for the masses, and all were welcomed to her table. Anna and Gerardo shared many wonderful memorable moments and friendships at The Italian American Club of Livonia. Their membership had become an inspiration to their children and their involvement at the Club. The Iadipaolo Family was able to announce 4 generation membership.

Anna passed on January 25th, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She joins her husband, her parents, her sister, closest relatives and dearest friends. And no doubt, she’s busy setting a table as she waits for loved ones. Anna’s life is truly something to behold. To know the hardships and struggles of her childhood is to understand her resilience and ability to overcome adversity. To witness the delight on her face when surrounded by loved ones is proof of her love and dedication to family. To see how tirelessly she worked for charity and cared for the less fortunate is evidence that we were in the presence of a most Godly woman.

Born to the late Enrico and Maria Ferrari, Vicalvi, Italia. Most Dearest Sister to IACL Member Pasquale (Mary) Ferrari, Concetta, (Antonio) Angeloni, Franco (Patti) Ferrari, IACL Members Loreta (Gabriele) Ferrari and the late Ortensia Ferrari Cherished Wife of the late Gerardo Iadipaolo of 46 years.
