Greetings … Welcome back everyone Welcome back from school holidays to start Term 3. I hope you all had a relaxing time with your family. The staff are refreshed and ready to go and so far it’s been a great first week back It has certainly been the weather for steaming hot soup and fresh hot bread!

Term 3 is a great opportunity for all students to work on their newly set Semester 2 goals and recommendations as stated in their student reports. Some will be consolidating skills and knowledge and others will focus on extending their knowledge. Our Year 6 students have less than six months of their primary school life to go which creates both excitement and anxious thoughts as they prepare for their secondary education.

Student Achievement Well done Guy F (year 6) and Claire Larkin (year 4) A fantastic effort from both Guy and Claire this week to participate in the State finals of the Cross Country event. Claire ran hard and came in the middle pack at 66th in the 9/10 girls event. Guy was able to produce a great result coming 10th in the State in the 12/13 boys group. both Claire and Guy reported that there were very hard conditions on the day with rain, slippery track, mud, and very cold. Guy reported that it was pretty rough and that his strategy was to try and hold the front position. Guy said he managed to stay 4th for about a kilometre then dropped back a bit and in the home stretch was able to make up a couple of places. Guy said it was hard to keep his muscles warm before the race started and that he rated the track about 8/10 for hardness. Guy told me that once he did a cross country event for Little Athletics, on a farm and had to contend with mud and cow poo everywhere! Congratulations to both Guy and Claire for their lung busting efforts and overall running abilities, very fit the both of them.

Work on the school over the holidays A number of necessary maintenance works were carried out over the holidays including the following:  A number of tripping hazards in the playgrounds were rectified  Hall boys toilets replacement of urinal with pan toilet to make it easier for the boys accuracy  Plastering and painting of upstairs, double storey building, ceiling and also repaired a number of cracks in walls in that area  Netball goals reinstated 2 | P a g e

 Cage installed over the gas meters outside of the Prep classrooms  External painting of the Out of Hours house  Upgrade of schools WiFi to CAT6A cable to allow broader bandwidth to support children’s learning

Vandalism The children and staff were disappointed and appalled at the random graffiti vandalism to the external walls and doors of parts of our school buildings. The children had many suggestions for me including installation of security cameras to protect our school. This seems to have occurred on the last Saturday evening of the school holidays as we had staff and tradespeople regularly in the school over the holiday break. The graffiti will be cleaned off early next week. Update on the Hall repairs Emergency Maintenance of the Department of Education has finalised the tender documents for the scope of works for the roof and storm water drain repairs. Their brief is to make it watertight and safe. A number of building companies will be visiting the school this week and next to prepare quotes for the work. It will then go back to the Department of Education to approve the budget and final scope of the works. It is important to note that School Council believes that whilst this work is welcomed, it will in no way cover the entire scope of the required work that is needed, to bring our school to the standard it deserves. Pupil Free Day Reminder that there is a Pupil Free Day next week on Friday 28th July. We are looking forward to professional learning on how to improve children’s Writing. Winter clothes for children It has certainly been very cold weather for the start of the term and most children are coming to school with that extra warm layer of clothing on (coats or warm jackets) as well as warm hats and gloves. Students will need all their warm clothes this term as the temperature drops to our real winter climate. Please ensure that children are dressed or come with appropriate clothes. Of course, we can’t guarantee that they will return with the same garments that they left the house with in the morning, but you can ask them to check lost property for discarded items. Prep Enrolments 2018 If you have not yet enrolled your child for prep next year I urge you to do so – we have a significant number of 2018 preps already enrolled, and now need to start planning for transition and grades for next year.

Warm regards, Kerrie

The BIG Show update… On the last day of term two, the WHOLE SCHOOL gathered together on the turf area for a final workshop before the holiday break. It was a great way to mark the end of the first round of workshops developing ideas and skills that will become this year’s production. It was also a great indication of the capacity for such a big group to work together cooperatively on some large scale activities. It’s a good indication of what we might be able to achieve later in the year. Remember, keep October 26 free for the performance. More details about times and ticketing will be coming soon. Watch this space.
