Dr Norman Ernest Borlaug - Inspiring Youth
• Born on March 25, 1914 in Cresco, Iowa, to Henry and Clara Borlaug • Known as a champion of high-yield crop varieties and agricultural innovations to help fight hunger in developing nations • 1970: recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize • 1977: Recipient of Presidential Medal of Freedom • 1987: Borlaug created the World Food Prize with John Ruan, which recognized the work of scientists and humanitarians who have helped fight world hunger through advanced agriculture • 2006: Recipient of Congressional Gold Medal • 1994: Global Youth Institute initiated by John Ruan and Dr. Norman Borlaug • Passed away at the age of 95 in 2009.

• Participating in the Global Youth Institute held in Iowa, students are eligible to apply for a prestigious Borlaug-Ruan International Internship • all-expenses-paid, eight-week hands-on experience, working with world-renowned scientists and policymakers at leading research centers in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
