Notice of Neighborhood Meeting for Los Cerritos Middle School – Conversion of Three Tennis Courts to Courts

Dear Resident, This is to notify you of a neighborhood meeting to be held on Wednesday, July 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the tennis courts at Los Cerritos Middle School. The Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) is partnering with the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) in converting three of the existing tennis courts into futsal courts. The courts would be used by CVUSD during school hours and by CRPD during non-school hours, including night time, weekend, and summer use. The origin of Futsal can be traced back to , , in 1930, when Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition in YMCAs. The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and outdoors without the use of sidewalls.

The game is frequently referred to as Five-A-Side or Mini-Soccer. Once Ceriani got the ball rolling, Futsal gained rapid popularity throughout South America, particularly in . The skill developed in this game is visible in the world-famous style the Brazilians display outdoors on the full-sized field. Pele, , Socrates, and other Brazilian superstars developed their skills playing Futsal. While Brazil continues to be the Futsal hub of the world, the game is now played, under the auspices of FIFA, all over the world, from Europe to North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Asia and Oceania. Futsal is gaining popularity in the ; U.S. Futsal was founded in 1981.

Futsal develops soccer skills rapidly, mainly because it allows players to more frequently touch the ball; presents many opportunities to score goals and score goals often, and encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (defending) while maximizing active participation and minimizing inactivity and boredom.
