Subject of modernization and general siuation Vey special location of Poland, and particulady the Province of Szczecn the near border with gemany, and the contact with denmark and Sweden through Baltic Sea gives the Region and the Country the oppornity of great economical development The transport network meeting the standards of European Union is of vital meauing (expwss motorways, highways) and it is the basc condition for economical cooperation with West Europe and Scandinavia. To reach this target it is absoluscly necessay to modernize the internatonal road connections Nordt - South i.e. motorway E-65. The motorway E-65 is included hn directipial road syste. of fiast motorways at the part (Malmoc, Ystad, gwinoujscie feny through Baltic Sea) between 9winoujAcie and Szczccin meant as the express motorway, and further on from Szczecin up to the southern border of Poland (Lubawka and fwrther on to Prague) meant as the highway. 3 The parT of the road 9winouj9cie - Szczecin runs through the area of special care. i.e. environmental proectiom particularly at the area between zalesie - Dargobq# through Wolin National Park and projected protection zone of Miqdzyzdroje Forest Inspectorate. To decreas the conflicts bewecn the interests of the invcsunent and the natural environment at the area between 9winoujicie and Par%owko. there were three versions I dcvelopeti The modernizanon versions were investigated in the view of thcir advantages and disadvantages, particularly in case of conflictless aspect of home road no.3 (inerational route E-65) at the area under protection (by Mr.&Mr. Popiel, Sidorczux 1995). A the noment the route A3, despite it does not conibml the standards of technical -equirements of express roads, plays an essential role for transit traffic fro Scandinavian Countnes to the suth of Europe. -2 - r~'j : DODP S:czccin PHOE S:.: 48 91 843997 Feb. 15 1996 e5:46AM PM3 2. At present it covers the area of 5001 ha ((90%), where 165 ha (3%/6)remains under strict protection including 146 ha which are forested. The park is divided into S protection zones (fore:, divisions). The grounds are domonated by moraine heights covcrcd with European beech, birch and oak forcsts. A vast majority of the park's area is covered with forests - 4420 hi, wbat equals to 94%. The area of 163 ha ame stricly protected that makes 3.3% of total park area. Thiel, P. Riel, R. Neumann and H. M. Winkler ABSTRACT The status of twaite shad in German and adjacent waters of the Baltic Sea was investigated based on the analysis of ichthyological museum collections, historical commercial catch statistics, recent catch records from commercial and recreational fishery and research hauls with different trawls from August 2003 to July 2004. 42 % of the historical records of twaite shad were estimated in subdivisions 24, whereas 21 % were registered in subdivision 26. A. fallax was mainly distributed within the areas of Pommeranian Bay and Pommeranian coast, Szczecin Lagoon, Bay of Gdańsk, Vistula Spit, Vistula Lagoon, Kuršiu Spit and Kuršiu Lagoon. Twaite shad was an important commercial species in those areas during the last quarter of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. The annual catches of twaite shad in the Southern Baltic declined sharply In the 1950s. The mean annual catch of twaite shad amounted to 90 982 kg for the entire Southern Baltic Sea between 1891 and 1960. About 47.9 % of that value were contributed by subdivision 26, comprising the areas of Gdańsk Bay, Vistula Lagoon/Vistula Spit and Kuršiu Lagoon/Kuršiu Spit. The proportion of subdivision 24, comprising the areas of Pommeranian Bay/Pommeranian coast and Szczecin Lagoon, amounted to 37.5 %.

Landform Analysis, Vol. 27: 45–54, 2014 doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.12657/landfana.027.004 Conditions and rate of extreme dunes abrasion at the Pomeranian Bay Jacek Tylkowski Institute of Geoecology and Geoinformation, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: This paper presents the temporal and spatial variability of the abrasion dynamics of the dunes located on the coast of the Southern Baltic Sea within the Polish section of the Pomeranian Bay between 1986 and 2008. The study presents long-term tendencies and daily dynamics of coastal dunes abrasion, being the consequence of intensive storm surges. Systematic, quantitative measurements of the abrasion of dunes were performed by the Maritime Offices in Szczecin, Słupsk and Gdynia within the sections of the dune coast most severely affected by abrasion. To determine the origin of the abrasion of dunes, the key hydro-meteorological conditions that determine the geomorphological changes of coastal sea areas, such as types of atmospheric circulation and the maximal sea levels during storm surges, were reviewed. The study also shows the maximal sea level thresholds that can determine the potential dynamics of coastal dunes abrasion at the Pomeranian Bay. Even as a town in the early stage of its development, has merged in itself influ- ences of many cultural circles, which can be traced today by examining an archaeological artefacts. With a view to this phenomenon, the aim of this article is the presentation and analysing of construction of 10th century atypical hull fragments of the early medieval clinker-built boats from the archaeological site no. 3 in Wolin. Examined relics consists of four constructional groups – keel made of pine wood, upper strakes with oarports, planks of unusual cross-sectional shape and these with painted external side. They are a part of a set of 80 shipbuilding elements secondary used in the constructions of harbour quays, recorded during archaeological excavations conducted in 2012-2013. The whole observation is embedded on the wide comparative background enabling indication of similar objects – e.g. the finds dis- covered off the coast of the south Baltic zone and today’s Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Furthermore, the study aims to emphasize the high research value of the heterogeneous set of secondary used planks. On the basis of the observed technical aspects such as raw material, caulking, planks cross-sections, holes for the oars or treatment of the outer sides, there was noted many similarities to the wrecks char- acteristic for both the lands dominated by Slavs and Scandinavians.

Kowalska & M. Mykita Instytut Meteorologii i Gospodarki Wodnej, Oddział Morski, Gdynia, Poland ABSTRACT: The level of 440 cm is defined as the upper limit of low sea level. This value is also accepted as the warning level for navigation, according to the NAVTEX. The low sea levels along the southern Baltic Sea coast were analyzed in the years 1955 – 2005. Lowest values recorded ranged from 309 cm in Wismar to 370 cm in Kołobrzeg. The phenomenon was chiefly generated by hurricane like offshore winds. Extremely low levels were not frequent, their occurrence did not exceed more than 0,3% in Świnoujście and not more than 1% in Warnemünde. In summer months these phenomena occurred extremely seldom, they were more fre- quent in the western, than in the eastern part of the coast. Long-term variation and statistical analysis was pre- sented. Probability of low sea levels occurrence was calculated by Gumbel method and percentile distribution for 4 gauge stations was analyzed. The calculations revealed that, for instance, in Warnemünde once in 20 years the minimum sea level can be as low as 358 cm. 1 INTRODUCTION gauges in Wismar, Warnemünde, Sassnitz, Świnoujście and Kołobrzeg.
