In our Vancouver STEAM program, develop a deeper understanding of sustainability, from the busy city to the natural wonderlands. Explore the international charm and thriving history of Vancouver’s neighborhoods, where they weave along the water’s edge. Celebrate Canada with the locals and visitors alike in Canada Place neighborhood, where students go on the FlyOver Canada film experience. From there, students tour the former shipyard of Coal Harbour, Vancouver’s oldest neighborhood of Gastown, the international center of Robson Street and the Zero Waste Island, Granville Island. Enjoy the architecture of Vancouver on a walking tour of Chinatown, Yaletown, Downtown, Gastown, West End and Strathcona. Stanley Park is an excellent example of cities working with the environment and setting up recreation space for plants and people to flourish alongside one another.

Leaders of sustainability, the University of British Columbia (UBC) considers their campus a living laboratory. Learn more about making a positive impact on people and the planet in a UBC Sustainability Lecture. On a UBC Sustainability Walking Tour, stop by seven green buildings to see what sustainability looks like in practice. At the Beaty Biodiversity Museum on the UBC campus, choose from 500 jaw-dropping exhibits to experience, from 82- foot long blue whale skeletons to dinosaur trackways as well as 2.1 million other biological specimens.

The largest alternative energy source in British Columbia is at the top of Grouse Mountain. Ascend 187 feet above the peak to stand secure in a glass viewing area within 7 feet of the blades of the wind turbine. Students are encouraged to think critically about how small changes they make can build up to big differences in the world.
