Note: If your needle moves when you switch your machine on, don’t put Materials the wing needle in until your machine is switched on and the needle has ad- justed itself. Water soluble stabilizer If you are unsure if your machine can take a wing needle, please check with your dealer first. Batiste fabric When using a wing needle, please use an embroidery foot with a biggish hole. Embroidery Thread The Bernina Artista tear drop foot does not work with the wing needle so its suggested that the no 9 darning foot or the no 15 embroidery foot is used. Wing needle I used the no 9 darning foot on my Bernina Artista to stitch out the wing needle designs. Ribbon

Method Hoop 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer. Stitch the first two colors. I used white for both of these.

This marks where to place the fabric. Cut a piece of batiste and place it over the stitched area. I used temporary adhesive spray to hold the fabric in place. Stitch the fourth color. Remove the hoop from the machine and trim away excess fabric from around the stitching. Stitch the rest of the de- sign until there are only two colors left. Don’t stitch these.

Change over to a wing needle and stitch the last two colors. Stitch out as many as you require. Cut the pieces roughly out and using a sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch, stich the pieces together. Rinse out the stabilizer. Some of the designs have holes for threading ribbon through.
