The Cliffs League is a 10-week team competition that rewards personal achievements rather than grades. Every 2 weeks, teams of 4 boulderers pick up score cards and tackle that week’s designated Bouldering League boulder problems. Teams will be scored and compete against one another each competition week. Battle it out for 4 competition weeks and the teams with the best cumulative scores will go head to head in the Bouldering League Championship Tournament!

One team = 4 Climbers • Team members must be Cliffs at Callowhill members, punch pass holders, or purchase a day pass for each visit. • All climbing levels are welcome. Do not discriminate between gender, climbing ability, and age. • We highly suggest having one “alternate” climber for weeks when someone plays hookie or drops out.

Choose a division:

• See "Scoring: The Division System" below to learn how to choose your division. We will score based on this system so if you climb V1 and your friend climbs V9, you can still be on the same team.

Interested in joining a team? Let us know and we’ll get you on one!

Once you have your team formed, choose a team name, and designate one person to register via email to [email protected] or at the front desk.

Registration fee is $80 per team → $20/person for the entire 10 weeks!

ALL TEAMS MUST BE REGISTERED BY April 30th, 2021.

Once registered, be sure to check our website and follow us on Instagram to see announcements, updated scores, and highlights from each competition week.

ouldering League competition weeks are every other week for the first 4 competitions, starting the week of May 2nd, 2021:

Starting on Sunday of each competition week, each team will choose a day to come in together as a team to climb the designated Sport League routes for that week.

• All team members need to be present to obtain scorecards from the front desk. • Teams are responsible for keeping track of what routes they climbed and handle their own scorecards. Please use the honor system. • Teams are encouraged to take videos of their favorite climbs and to tag us on Instagram to repost as highlights for each week!

During non-competition weeks, we’ll set new routes, calculate scores, and post them online. After 4 weeks of competitions, we will invite our top-ranking teams to compete in the Bouldering League Championship for the grand prize.

Weekly scoring will be the total points of all climbs climbed.

Championship scoring will receive points for their top 5 routes each competition week.

❖ 10 points for redpointing your division ❖ +3/-3 points for each grade above and below grades within your listed division ❖ +3 points for flash

*Flash = Finishing the climb on the first attempt

* = Finishing the climb with two or more attempts

How the division system works:

Divisions allow for non-discrimination of climbing ability. Climbers of all levels, experience and abilities can be on the same team. This system rewards personal achievement while prioritizing fun and camaraderie.

When a competitor registers, they will designate their division based on the hardest grade they are able to consistently climb.

V0-V1 = A V8-V9 = E

V2-V3 = B V10-V11 = F

V4-V5 = C

V6-V7 = D

Examples:

• Maya usually gets up at least one V6 per week = D • Drake typically climbs V3s, but once every couple of weeks, finishes a V4 = B • Jovan climbs V7 once a week or so, but last year they were crushing V9s = E • Sam climbs V1 easily, but is intimidated to try V2s = A, but will be adjusted to B if she is flashing all V1s on the first competition day.

Divisions can change throughout the 10 weeks of Sport League competitions, so don’t get too stressed out about what to pick. If you suddenly get stronger (we hope you do!) and start regularly climbing a grade harder than your stated division, our scorekeepers will adjust your division. Likewise, if you go through a “high-gravity” week and can’t seem to climb at the same level you were before, we’ll adjust that as well.

Each competition week, the scorecard will have a certain number of problems designed for the Bouldering League, ranging from roughly V0-V11. These grades will not be displayed on the Bouldering League labels. The goal of each team member is to try and flash or redpoint as many routes as you can to earn the most points for your team. Each team member’s score will be added together for the total team score for that week. At the end of the 10 weeks, the teams with the best cumulative scores will be invited to compete in the Sport League Championship Tournament.

• Only designated Bouldering League problems count towards your score. • There are no do-overs during competition weeks. • Four team members must all come together on the same day and climb Bouldering League competition problems in one session. Scorecards must be turned in by the end of the bouldering session. • If you are using an Alternate Team Member, it must be stated at the time your team picks up the scorecard for that competition day. • No scorecard turned in for that week = 0 points • Scorecards are completed based on the honor system. Sandbaggers and cheaters will be expelled from this competition and banned from competing in future Bouldering League competitions. • If a team member quits the league before completion of the 10 weeks AND there is no alternate for the team, another team member may be added in their place or the team may choose to continue with one member short.
