Presentation of Tallit: After Shaharit, right before Torah service begins the Tallit is presented by parents, grandparents, or other relative. Child rises and says brakha. Those giving the tallit drape it over the child’s shoulders. Rabbi announces start of Torah service – page 394. Child, family members and all those participating in opening part of Torah service ascend the bimah at this time. Parents take the 7th aliyah. Let Rabbi Drazen or Barbara know if you would like our instructions about how to take aliyah. Hatzi Kaddish is said. Child has maftir aliyah. When the child has completed her/his aliyah, parents say the barukh shepetaranu prayer after bar/t mitzvah completes the brakha for the aliyah, but before the haftarah. Read both the Hebrew and the English. There is a sheet with wording provided on the pulpit and you will get a card as well. ברוך שפטרנו מעונשו שלזה .For boys: barukh shep’ta-ranu may onsho she la ze ברוך שפטרנו מעונשה שלזו .For girls: barukh shep’ta-ranu may onsha she la zo Immediately after haftarah – Rabbi and Ba’alat Tefilah recite mi-sheberakh for bar/t mitzvah. After Ashrei, the service continues on page 422, with the service to return the Torah to the ark. Those participating in closing part of Torah service ascend the bimah at this time. Family members join the processional. After Torah is returned to ark: Child gives devar Torah. Rabbi speaks to Bar/t Mitzvah. At the end of his remarks, the rabbi calls on the family to rise and say shehehiyanu.” Cards with blessing provided. Sermon At the end of Musaf – after aleinu and kaddish, page 512, but before Adon Olam Parent message to child* 2-3 minutes (optional). Rabbi reviews remarks before.
