PAULA HULBURT

A car service designed to make hospital appointments less stressful has made its first journey. Eva Morrison, 91, from Picton became the first person to use the Marlborough Sounds Community Vehicle Trust car. She was driven to Nelson Hos- pital by volunteer driver Judy Neil for the inaugural trip. Eva says the service was ‘‘a great idea’’ as it gave her a sense of freedom. ‘‘I used to have to depend on my family to take me and it wasn’t always possible or they’d have to take a day off work. ‘‘It’s quite an honour to be the first person to use the car. ‘‘I think there must be quite a few people like me who will use this service.’’ The Marlborough Sounds Community Vehicle Trust have arranged for drivers to take passengers from Picton, Waikawa and the Marlborough Sounds to medical appointments in Nelson. The cost of the journey is $40 but participants must be members of the trust, which includes an annual membership fee of $15.
