Don’t Depart The Departed and Here’s Why
By: Isaac Tomoletz
The movie The Departed, released in 2006, is a remake of the Hong Kong film Internal Affairs. Departed was directed by Martin Scorsesse and produced by the well known Brad Pitt as well as a few others. A few of the actors in this movie are Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack
Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, and the list goes on with some greats. The plot of this crime-ridden movie takes place in Boston where an Irish Mob boss played by Nicholson and in the movie
Frank Costello plants a mole in the Massachusetts State Police, the mole being Collin Sullivan played by Matt Damon. The police assign William Costigan, played by Leonardo DiCaprio to get inside Costello’s crew. Sullivan and Costigan start to figure out what’s going on and try to uncover each other and it leads to a whole hot mess and the death of a few important characters throughout the movie.
This by far is my favorite movie because this is right down the alley of the kinds of movies I like to watch. When it comes to watching movies for me, I get really picky and if the movie cover doesn’t catch my eyes then I most likely won’t watch the movie. With The Departed’s cover art it reminded me of the Grand Theft Auto IV cover and that is my favorite video game of all time, so it immediately caught my attention. My final thoughts on this is that if you enjoy action movies then this is the movie to watch. This movie will also bring lots of suspension along with mystery. From unexpected deaths to high speed chasing along with lots of gun action this movie touches up on almost everything an action movie should have.
