We saw many busy and enthusiastic students helping out. We hope that this successful event encourages all students to keep the school clean in the future, so that the SC itself can be more effective in combating the dirtiness. Also, the Valentine’s Dance was a great success. Check our facebook page for photos! • Members of the Student Council and JFKS Goes Green Group have recently painted the bathrooms in the White and Blue Building. Please keep the bathrooms neat and do not destroy their effort. • Nearly the entire High School has participated in our survey on Homework and School Cleanliness. Thank you! The SC’s future of success strongly depends on your voices. If you did not take part, but still want to, you can contact us at the email below or via facebook. • Adding to the survey, we need your input. If you believe that the amount of homework must change, please write down the time you spend on school work each night (including projects and test preparation) for about 10 days. Then, send us an email with your results. Your help is highly appreciated! • The Student Council has formed a committee which will work on the project “Schule ohne Rassismus – Schule mit Courage”. It consists of students from both the Elementary and the High School, not necessarily SC members. The committee will work independently; so the SC can focus on other projects. • The Student Council Presidents have introduced a new point in the agenda of all SC meet- ings: “Approval of minutes and agenda”. This makes it possible for your class representatives to bring up a variety of issues. It is a great way for you to address suggestions or complaints, just tell your class reps! • The Student Council has a new official email address: [email protected].

  • The Departed Talent: Matt Damon, Leonardo Dicaprio, Jack Nicholson
The Departed Talent: Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone. Date of review: Thursday the 12th of October, 2006. Director: Martin Scorsese Classification: MA (15+) Duration: 152 minutes We rate it: Five stars. For any serious cinemagoer or lover of film as an art form, the arrival of a new film by Martin Scorsese is a reason to get very excited indeed. Scorsese has long been regarded as one of the greatest of America’s filmmakers; since the mid-1980s he has been regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the world, period. With landmark works like Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990) and Bringing Out the Dead (1999) to his credit, Scorsese is a director for whom any actor will go the distance, and the casts the director manages to assemble for his every project are extraordinarily impressive. As a visualist Scorsese is a force to be reckoned with, and his soundtracks regularly become known as classic creations; his regular collaborators, including editor Thelma Schoonmaker and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus are the best in their respective fields. Paraphrasing all of this, one could justifiably describe Martin Scorsese as one of the most important and interesting directors on the face of the planet. The Departed, Scorsese’s newest film, is on one level a remake of a very successful Hong Kong action thriller from 2002 called Infernal Affairs. That film, written by Felix Chong and directed by Andrew Lau, set the box office on fire in Hong Kong and became a cult hit around the world.

6th International Conference on Management, Education, Information and Control (MEICI 2016) An Analysis of Grammatical Metaphor of Oscar-Winning Film Titles Zhenghua Tan1, a * and Yiting Wu2, b 1School of foreign languages, Jianghan University, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China [email protected], [email protected] Keywords: Grammatical metaphor; Nominalization; Film titles; Translation strategies Abstract. Grammatical Metaphor is an incongruent expression in realization of meaning on lexical and grammatical level, of which the main form is nominalization. It is divided into ideational metaphor and interpersonal metaphor. By analysis of the titles of thirty American Oscar-winning films, it can be found that nominalization is a common phenomenon. Based on this, the English film titles discussed may enlighten the Chinese film titles translation in cross-cultural communication and nominalization should be a tendency of expression form when translating Chinese film titles into English, in order to convey information of them more concisely and efficiently. Introduction During the increasingly frequent cross-cultural communication, more and more Chinese films have access to enter foreign film markets. According to the statistics, the production of Chinese feature films up to 686 while the imported films are only 63 in 2015. Moreover, the sale of Chinese films abroad is 2.77 billion Yuan, up 48.13% over last year. Thus it can be seen that export of films will become a trend in the future. Considering this, film translation plays a fairly important role. And title translation comes first when films are faced with overseas propaganda. It is generally known that a title is the soul of a film.

We have collected and are releasing a data set designed to help investigate eye movements in response to higher level features such as faces, dialogue, camera movements, image composition, and edits. The data set, which will be released to the community, includes gaze information for 21 viewers watching 15 clips from live action 2D lms, which have been hand annotated for high level features. • Hollywood's New Yorker
Introduction Martin Scorsese and Film Culture IN MARCH 2007 THREE VETERAN filmmakers of the New Hollywood, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg, came to the stage of the Academy Awards to present the award for Best Director. The moment this occurred, it became obvious to anyone in the know who the announced winner would be. Martin Scorsese was the prohibitive favorite, a veteran of American cinema who had been nominated five times previously without a victory. Like the three presenters, Scorsese was a director associated with the New Hollywood of the 1970s. Further‑ more, he was widely regarded as the greatest of that generation and as arguably the best of all living American filmmakers. It became clear that the Oscar ceremony was carefully staged theater. Typically, the previous year’s winner presents the award. In this case, it would have been Ang Lee, the winner in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain. The Academy decided to break with this tradition and have Coppola, Lucas, and Spielberg announce the winner. Scorsese was thus finally inducted into the Hollywood “inside” with his fellow New Hollywood directors. Scorsese’s acceptance speech tell‑ ingly made reference to the importance of film preservation and protect‑ ing Hollywood’s great tradition. Scorsese was both placing himself in this tradition while referencing his own work as a cultural historian. Even as he was accepting this symbol of middlebrow respectability, Scorsese attempted to remind his audience that his true passion was not his own filmmaking but the whole of film culture. As much as possible, Scorsese worked to mitigate the move to the mainstream of Hollywood produc‑ tion, a move signaled shortly before his Oscar win by his signing of a major production deal with Paramount studio, the first such production deal Scorsese had in several years.

THE DEPARTED BY William Monahan Based on FADE UP ON THE SOUTH BOSTON HOUSING PROJECTS. A maze of buildings against the harbor. CLOSE ON: YELLOW. Yellow ripples past the camera and when it clears we see through diesel smoke: A BUSING PROTEST in progress. The SCHOOLBUS, full of black kids, is hit with bricks, rocks. A brief, violent, destructive barrage. The surging, rioting, crowd in the street is so Irish that it might as well have been photographed in Belfast. Placards of the period are displayed. He is wearing double-knits, a white belt and shoes, but the last thing you would EVER do is laugh at him. He goes into an ICE CREAM SHOP. INT . LUNCH COUNTER. DAY COSTELLO comes in. The shop is one that sells papers, sundries, fountain drinks...and fronts a bookie operation. YOUNG COSTELLO (leaning over cluttered counter) Hi. The frightened proprietor hands over money.
