Welcome to Day One of Awareness Week!

Douglas Emergency Management, Topeka , and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management have proclaimed March 2-6, 2015 as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Douglas County and Kansas.

According to the , the US experienced 888 tornadoes in 2014. Kansas experienced 40 of those tornadoes which is the quietest season in Kansas since 1989. Don’t let the quiet season reduce your reason to get prepared. It only takes 1 storm to impact your life.

WATCHES VS. WARNINGS Severe Watch A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is issued by the Topeka National Weather Service (NWS) when the weather conditions are such that a severe thunderstorm is likely to develop.
