िनवितता यु सरधा वतथाे यद धमेण dissuaded them from war, to follow dharma, nivartitāḥ syuḥ saṁrabdhā vartethā yadi dharmeṇa

न वा  यसनमाजते ् || न वा  यसनमाजते ् || then misfortune would not have afflicted you. then misfortune would not have afflicted you. na tvāṁ vyasanam āvrajet (62.5) na tvāṁ vyasanam āvrajet (62.8)

व  त  ातमा े लाके े यपनयु ुकाले व BtBut you, the w isest tith in the world , NththbNow that war has begun, you tvaṁ tu prājñatamo loke yat punar yuddha-kāle tvaṁ

हवा धम सनातनम् | पागहु यसे नपृ | abdibandoning et ernal ldh dharma, blame your sons, O ki ng, hitvā dharmaṁ sanātanam putrān garhayase nṛpa

दयाु धनये कणय बधा याहरदाषाने ् the judgment of Duryodhana, Karna, pointing out their many mistakes. duryodhanasya karṇasya bahudhā vyāharan doṣān

शकु नेावगा मतम् || न तदापपते े || and you accepted. Doing so now is not proper. śakuneś cānvagā matam (62.9) na tad adyopapadyate (62.17) धृतरा उवाच ताह कारवायै े King Dhr itarasth ra said, IthiI thin kthk the are ithjin the jaws dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca grastān hi kauravānmanye

समूढाऽे भशृ  तात सय उवाच O SjSanjaya, I am compl et el y b ewild ered , SjSanjaya said, saṁmūḍho 'smi bhṛśaṁ tāta sañjaya uvāca

ुवा कृ णधनयाै | hithtKihhearing that Krishna and AjArjuna śrutvā kṛṣṇa-dhanañjayau

वा ै मामक सैय have penetrated my army praviṣṭau māmakaṁ sainyaṁ

सावतने सहायताु ै || with the help of . sātvatena sahācyutau (89.38) अाापराधासूत तव िनगुणता  ावा Due titkto your own mistakes, bibeing overcome OtflkfitOn account of your lack of virtue, ātmāparādhāt sambhūtaṁ tava nirguṇatāṁ jñātvā

यसन भरतषभ | पपात  सतेष ु च | biftOkiby misfortune, O king, your bias t oward s your sons, vyasanaṁ bharata-rṣabha pakṣapātaṁ suteṣu ca

ाय ाकृ तवर ैधीभाव  तथा धमे like an ordinary person, your ambivalence towards dharma, prāpya prākṛtavad vīra dvaidhī-bhāvaṁ tathā dharme

न व  शाचते मह स || पाडवषे ु च मसरम् || you should not grieve. and your jealousy towards the ... na tvaṁśocitum arhasi (90.1) pāṇḍaveṣu ca matsaram (90.2)
