Rules and Conditions –Indoor League

For the benefit of all users we would ask that all teams observe the rules and conditions of the NR Cricket Indoor Cricket League stated below.

VENUE & TIMINGS

Matches will be organised on the specified nights and between the hours stated. Team captains will have ‘tossed-up’ and have their teams ready to play 5 minutes before the allotted fixture time. Each match is allocated ONE hour, so punctuality in readiness and avoidance of time wasting during play is essential.

If a captain or designated player is not available for the toss then the captain of the team present may choose whether to bat or bowl.

LEAGUE DIVISIONS & FIXTURES

Fixtures will be issued by NR Cricket and must be adhered to. Each team in the league will play each other twice.

ENTRANCE & MATCH FEES

All clubs participating in the NR Cricket Indoor Cricket League will need to pay an league entrance fee of £10 per team and a deposit of £40 per team which is payable on registration.

Match fees will be £40 per team per game. Each team will play all other teams in their league twice, unless the number of teams in the league changes the league structure. Each team will be required to pay their match fees on or before the match day. Any payments that are missed will be owed by the affiliated club/organisation to NR Cricket and will be required to be paid in full.

Please note: Cash will be accepted on the night. Failure to pay within 7 days may result in suspension from the league, this will be at the discretion of the league organiser. If you do not keep up to date with the payments your place in the league will be terminated, unless an agreement is in place with Torch Coaching.

CANCELLATIONS

Any team cancelling a game must do so 5 days before the fixture is due to be played. Re-arrangement of fixtures is not guaranteed even if cancellation has been made with 5 days notice, however Torch Coaching will try where possible to ensure the game is played.

Failure to show for a game or cancellations without 24 hours’ notice will result in a £35 fine per game. In the event of a game being cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice maximum points for the game will be awarded to the opposing team.

www.nrcricket.co.uk

Teams wishing to withdraw from the league before concluding its fixtures will not receive a refund and are liable for the full amount of the original cost to enter and play in the league plus any charges as outlined above.

NB: The organising body reserve the right to amend playing rules to local conditions.

PLAYING REGULATIONS

Except as stated and varied in the under-mentioned rules, the current ‘Laws Of Cricket’ and any ‘Experimental Laws’ associated therewith shall apply.

1. Teams shall consist of six (6) players.

2. Each match shall consist of one (1) twelve (12) innings per side.

3. No bowler may bowl more than three (3) overs. In the event of a bowler being unable to finish an over, it shall be completed by another eligible bowler. In extreme circumstances the league organisers can allow for a 4th over to be bowled by one bowler if this is a result of injuries or teams playing with fewer players.

4. The interval between innings shall not exceed five (5) minutes.

5. Two batsmen must be at the wicket at all times. In the event of five (5) wickets falling, any out batsman can return and shall remain as a runner until the sixth (6th) wicket falls or twelve (12) overs are completed.

6. When a batsman reaches a score of thirty (30) runs they must retire but may return, in order of retirement, if the remainder of the side, not including the batsman at the wicket, are dismissed.

7. Each ball bowled must pitch over the white line designated as the ‘no ball’ line or will be called as a ‘no ball’.

8. Overs will be bowled from 1 end of the wicket.

SCORING

1. A ball struck to the boundary wall behind the bowler, having not come into contact with the floor or any other wall or the ceiling, shall count as four (4) runs. If, however, a ball struck to the boundary wall does make contact with the floor but not with any wall or the ceiling, it shall count as six (6) runs.

2. A ball struck to a side wall or the back wall shall count as one (1) run, even if the ball should subsequently hit the boundary wall. Two (2) additional runs shall be scored if the batsmen complete a run. A ball struck onto the ceiling will not count as a run but the batsman can run. If the ball strikes the ceiling then the back wall this shall still count as no run, and the batsman can run.

www.nrcricket.co.uk

3. Two (2) runs shall be scored if the batsman plays the ball and it does not strike any wall or the ceiling but a run is completed.

4. A bye shall be awarded if the ball strikes a wall without making contact with the bat and in the same instance a leg bye shall count as one (1) run. In both cases, if the batters complete a run then two (2) additional runs shall be scored.

5. Two (2) byes or leg byes shall be scored, in accordance with the provision of the previous rule if the batters complete a run without the ball hitting a wall.

6. In the event of a batsman being caught off the wall, no run shall be scored for this ball. In the event of a batsman being but the ball having made contact with the wall prior to the run out, 1 run shall be scored.

7. In overs 1 – 11: a. A ‘No Ball’ will count as two (2) runs unless the ball strikes a wall, in which case, it shall count as four (3) runs. Should the batsmen run then an additional (2) runs will be added for each completed run. b. A ‘Wide Ball’ will count as two (2) runs unless the ball strikes a wall, in which case, it shall count as four (3) runs.

8. In over 12: a. ‘Wides’ and ‘No Balls’ shall be scored as two (2) runs and an extra ball shall be added to the over. b. Scoring will otherwise be as normal.

9. An overthrow hitting any wall or the ceiling shall count as one (1) extra run.

10. No runs will be scored if a batsman is ‘caught’ off a ball striking a wall or the ceiling.

11. A ball lodging in the netting shall count as a dead ball and (1) run will be scored.

Power Play Over

This will be a 1 over period, selected by the Team, where any runs scored count as double for the team, however to make it fair if any wickets fall, 5 runs will be taken off the batting sides score! A balancing act between Risk and Reward! The Power Play will last 1 over, and has to be taken between overs 1-11 (not the last over), Extras will also be doubled, it will be called by the batting team and the team can choose to change the bowler prior to the start of the over.

www.nrcricket.co.uk

The runs scored during this period will count as additional team runs but the batsman will still score a 1,2,3,4,6 etc, rather than doubling their score. Similarly the bowler’s figures will not be affected by bowling during the power play.

METHOD OF DISMISSAL

Apart from the normal methods of dismissal as stated in the ‘Laws Of Cricket’ the following variations shall apply:

1. A batsman shall be adjudged ‘caught’ if a fielder catches a ball rebounding off either the off side and leg side netting /walls. This also applies to the ceiling and the netting/ walls behind the wicket keeper, but NOT the bowler.

2. The last ‘not out’ batsman shall be ‘out’ if the non-striker is ‘run out’.

3. The batsman or non-striker shall be given ‘not out’ if the ball rebounds from any wall or the ceiling and hits the stumps without first touching a fielder.

4. If the bails are broken and the batsmen attempt an extra run, to run out a batsman the fielder must lift the stump either out of the base or in the air. The umpire’s decision will be final on this.

PENALTIES

All teams must be ready five (5) minutes before their allotted fixture time.

Any team unable to start with at least four (4) players, when called upon by the umpires will suffer a reduction in their batting innings of two (2) overs for each five (5) minutes lost or part thereof, after being called to play.

If any player is deemed to be bowling deliberate wide balls, the 2 runs for the wide will count and the ball will be replayed.

BALL

A Reader/Wintech 4oz indoor ball will be provided and used at all times. A damaged ball may be replaced at the umpire’s discretion by a ball of similar wear if possible.

UMPIRES

NR Cricket will provide an umpire for all matches. All teams will need to provide 1 umpire as a square leg umpire. The square leg umpire will stand outside of the playing arena, wherever possible, and will be a member of the batting team allocated by their captain. If a square leg umpire is not provided then the Standing Umpire will be responsible for all decisions. Umpires will inspect all footwear before the commencement of each match.

Scoring is done by the NR Cricket appointed umpire.

RESULT SHEETS

1. Players do not have to wear full ‘Cricket Whites’ but should be appropriately dressed for Cricket with clean clothing (without clashing with the colour of the match ball). Coloured team kits would be an impressive option. Only white or light coloured soles on footwear should be worn.

2. Players must adhere to the league rules at all times and play within the spirit of the game. NR Cricket reserve the right to remove any individual or team due to any behaviour deemed unacceptable by the organising committee.

3. Players may not play for more than one (1) club or more than one (1) team within their club during the season.
