Exemplar scheme in the heart CLIENT of Leeds Roydhouse Developments and Marrico The site was a former Royal Mail building which Asset Management closed in 1998. Phase 1 of its redevelopment LPA was started in 2003, in the form of the refurbishment of the old tower into a Leeds City Council residential scheme now known as West Point. STATUS We provided planning advice and support throughout the project, supporting the Project completed and occupied consultant team, including the architects SERVICES (DLA), in delivering a planning permission. Leeds University Technical College

Engineering UTC completes CLIENT the education hub in Leeds BAM Construction Ltd We were asked to assist BAM Construction Ltd LPA on the first University Technical College (UTC) in Leeds. The scheme was promoted by its Leeds City Council sponsors as a new education offer specialising STATUS in engineering, completing the education hub in the city centre. Transformation of the CLIENT landmark Majestic building Rushbond The redevelopment of the grade II listed LPA Majestic building will provide a mixed-use, primarily office-led, development with the Leeds City Council ground and lower ground floors assigned to STATUS leisure uses including restaurants and bars. We undertook detailed pre-application Planning permission granted discussions with Leeds City Council including SERVICES a pre-application presentation, which was received with enthusiasm by the panel members. Ruth Gorse Academy, Leeds

Education at the heart CLIENT Image courtesy of Ryder Architects of the BAM Construction Ltd Turley joined the BAM Construction Ltd team LPA to provide them with planning advice at ITT stage. We were then retained to secure the Leeds City Council granting of planning permission. Delivering transformational CLIENT regeneration within the Future Generation Mabgate Development LPA Framework area Leeds City Council The site is located within a regeneration priority area to the north-east of Leeds City Centre, STATUS within the Mabgate Development Framework Planning permission granted boundary. Transforming the Northern CLIENT Civic Quarter into a vibrant Idé Real Estate city centre destination LPA We gained full planning permission and listed Leeds City Council building consent for the redevelopment of the site of the former Leeds City Council offices, STATUS which comprises three grade II listed buildings. Approved subject to a Section 106 Agreement The project will involve the regeneration of SERVICES the listed buildings as well as the construction of a new build element. Yarn Street Hunslet (H2010)

Riverside brownfield housing CLIENT development leads area-wide Miller Homes (Yorkshire) Ltd regeneration LPA We obtained outline planning permission Leeds City Council for residential development on this derelict former industrial site for Isis Waterside. STATUS We were retained by the purchaser, Miller Planning permission granted Homes, to advise on planning and urban design. The proposal comprised a mixture of housing, SERVICES with a focus on 280 units for family housing and apartments fronting the river, along with four Planning, Design shop or cafe units and a riverside pavilion. We provided the co-ordinating role for pre-application design discussions and agreement was reached through a meticulous urban design process. We submitted the resulting planning application and prepared a detailed Design and Access Statement. Planning permission was granted in November 2008, and in November 2012 the development won “What House?” magazine’s gold medal as the best brownfield regeneration project in the UK. The site sits in a key location with considerable visual sensitivity, as well as sitting in the zone of sensitivity for wide ranging views of the iconic “Parkinson Building” and several prominent church spires. The scheme achieved a successful balance between maximising the need to provide more purpose built student accommodation and a sensitive visual context.
