HILLSDALE BOARD OF EDUCATION HILLSDALE, NEW JERSEY WORK SESSION/ REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 12, 2018 MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER The Board of Education of the Borough of Hillsdale held a Work Session/Regular Meeting at the Ann Blanche Smith School on Monday, November 12, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 6:30p.m. by Kathleen O'Flynn, President and Presiding Officer. 2. SALUTE TO THE FLAG 3. OPENINGSTATEMENT The New Jersey Open Public Meetings Law was enacted to insure the right of the public to have advance notice and to attend the meetings of public bodies at which any business affecting their interests is discussed or acted upon. In accordance with the provisions of the Act, the Hillsdale Board of Education has caused notice of this meeting to be published by having the date, time and place thereof posted at the Hillsdale Borough Hall, Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale; the Hillsdale Public Library, 509 Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale; the Hillsdale Board of Education Office, 32 Ruckman Road, Hillsdale; and sent to the Board's designated newspapers: The Record on April28, 2018 and the Ridgewood News on May 4, 2018. This meeting's agenda has been posted and sent to The Ridgewood News and The Record on November 7, 2018. 4. MOTION TO CONVENE TO MOTIONED TO CONVENE TO EXECUTIVE SESSION EXECUTIVE SESSION Moved by Trustee Flinn, seconded by Trustee Svorec that the Board move to an Executive Session at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing exempt matters pertaining to HIB, student and personnel matters. Motion passed by roll call vote: 3-0. 6. MOTION TO ADJOURN TO MOTIONED TO ADJOURN EXECTUIVE EXECUTIVE SESSION AND SESSION AND RECONVENE TO RECONVENE TO PUBLIC MEETING PUBLIC MEETING Moved by Trustee Flinn, seconded by Trustee Svorec the Board move to adjourn the Executive Session and reconvene to the Public Meeting at 7:00 p.m. Motion passed by consensus vote: 5-0. 6A. Second Salute to the Flag 7. ANN BLANCHE SMITH GREEN TEAM ANN BLANCHE SMITH GREEN TEAM PRESENTATION PRESENTATION A presentation was made by the Ann Blanche Smith Green Team which consists of 4th grade students. Mrs. Rosenbaum opened the presentation with some comments on behalf of herself and all the Ann Blanche Smith 4th grade teachers. Mrs. Iskenderian expressed her gratitude to the students and teachers on the presentation. RECESS RECESS A brief recess was called at 7:06 p.m. RECONVENE RECONVENE Mrs. O'Flynn reconvened the meeting at 7:11 p.m. 7A. APPROVAL TO AFFIRM APPROVED AFFIRMATION SUPERINTENDENT'S DECISION SUPERINTENDENT'S DECISION W1819-1; 2018-2019 W1819-1 It is recommended that the Board affirm the Superintendent's decision regarding W1819-1 as a non HIB incident. This action is a result of the October 8, 2018 Executive Session. 2E. APPROVAL TO ACCEPT APPROVED ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION; 2018-2019 DONATION It is recommended that the Board gratefully accept a donation from Smith School Parent Teacher Association toward the air conditioning project. 3E. APPROVAL TO SUBMIT SCHOOL APPROVED SUBMISSION OF SAFETY AND SECURITY PLAN SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY STATEMENT OF ASSURANCE (SOA) PLAN STATEMENT OF TO THE BERGEN COUNTY OFFICE ASSURANCE (SOA) TO THE OF EDUCATION; 2018-2019 BERGEN COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION It is recommended that the Board approve the submission of the School Safety and Security Plan Statement of Assurance to the Bergen County Office of Education for the 2018-2019 school year. APPROVAL OF ESTIMATED CHILD APPROVED ESTIMATED CHILD REARING LEAVE; 2018-2019 REARING LEAVE It is recommended that the Board approve the estimated maternity related disability paid leave of absence (FMLA) of Jessica Allen effective March 18, 2019 through April 19, 2019, and the unpaid leave of absence (NJFLA) effective April29, 2019 through June 21, 2019 According to Chapter 78, all employees receiving Family Leave and not waiving health benefits must pay the Board of Education either the higher amount of either the insurance premium or 1.5% of their salary.
