The 18th International Robert Schumann Competition Zwickau 2021 The 18th International Robert Schumann Competition has been postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the Covid pandemic and will take place from June 3 to 13, 2021 under the currently valid regulations and hygiene conditions of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Saxon Covid Protection Regulations.
Further process in 2021 Due to the high number of participants and the necessary measures to restrict the Covid pandemic, the competition cannot be carried out as planned and the process must be adapted to ensure contact restrictions, distance regulations, hygiene measures and contact follow-up. For these reasons, the 1st selection round can only be carried out in digital form.
The registrations (applications) confirmed for 2020 remain valid for 2021. Changes to the program received by the organizer by January 31, 2021 will be taken into account. Subsequent changes to the repertoire for the 2nd round and the final are not possible.
1. Video selection round For participation in the 1st selection round, video recordings with the following criteria must be uploaded from March 15 to April 19 (we will send you the link by e-mail in March):
Video recording not older than 18 months, with two of the three songs specified as competition repertoire for the 1st round Works that are submitted via video may not be performed again during the rest of the competition The accompanying pianist in the singing category does not have to be the one registered for the competition All pieces must be recorded completely, unprocessed and without cuts The works must be performed by heart The face of the participant must be fully visible at all times. Public recordings can be submitted if they meet the above conditions (no cuts) Video quality: 720p or 1080i or 1080p Audio quality: 256kbps mp3 or 128aac (if possible no built-in smartphone microphones; good microphone positioning) Formats: mp4 or mov File size: max. 900 MB File name: Singing_Family Name_First Name_op99-9_op11-1
The recordings will only be reviewed by the jury, if they are complete and received on time and the participation fee has been paid. The participation fee of € 75.00 must be paid free of charge for the recipient by April 15, 2021 (we will send you the deposit code in March). In case of doubt, proof of payment must be sent.
Qualification for the 2nd selection round The jury and the competition chairman decide which participants are admitted to the 2nd round in Zwickau. Explanations of the decisions are not given. The decisions made are final and cannot be contested in law.
The results will be announced on May 3, 2021 by email and on the website www.schumann- zwickau.de as well as on facebook. The jury will draw up a list of a limited number of candidates for replacement of participants who have withdrawn from the 2nd round.
2nd selection round in Zwickau from June 4, 2021 - May 3rd: publication of the participants - 23 to 25 May: online registration for participation in the 2nd selection round (the formalities for this will be sent to the admitted participants), later registrations will not be considered - 26 to 27 May: filling in of replacement candidates for participants who have withdrawn (information by email) - May 28, 4 p.m.: publication of the rehearsal and evaluation times and performance locations - from June 2nd practice rooms are available in the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau
Please note them: If a participant cancels his participation in the 2nd selection round, the participation fee will not be refunded.

If official regulations do not allow the competition to take place, the organizer will have to cancel the competition. In this case of cancellation, the participation fee will be refunded.
