Tallaght to Inchicore 110kV cable project

Project Overview

This project has been designed to support current power demand and future growth in the Tallaght Industrial Zone. This will involve ESB Networks bringing two new underground 110kv cables from the nearest 220kv Sub-station in Inchicore to the new ESB Networks 110kv Airton Sub-station. The route for these new underground 110KV cables runs mainly along public roadways and open space and parkland. Ducting works began in October 2017 and ESB Networks will return to a number of key areas to install cables and complete jointing in July 2018. The initial proposed route between Bluebell Avenue and Inchicore Substation was routed along Canal Terrace and across the Grand Canal by means of open cut excavation. However, the presence of congested underground services and the potential impact of the route on existing residents has resulted in identification of a better, alternative route. This alternative route is a minor, localised amendment. This route will continue along Bluebell Avenue, traverse the disused Community Centre site and cross under the Dublin City Council water treatment plant and Grand Canal by means of horizontal directional drilling. Further to this, discussions will be held with Dublin City Council in relation to providing some community benefits in the vicinity.
