Bel Canto Opera Festival in Japan 2020
◆ Carmen Santoro “Opera studio 2020”
The Fujiwara Opera in partnership with The Festival della Valle d’Itria (Martina Franca, Italy) held the first "Bel Canto Opera Festival in Japan"(BOF) in 2019, aiming to create a new Bel Canto opera in Japan. The first performance was S. Mercadante’s "Francesca da Rimini", at the festival in March 2019, which became the opera’s first performance in Japan. The second performance was A.Scarlatti’s baroque opera ”Il trionfo dell’onore”, in November 2019. And this year, N.Vaccaj’s “Giulietta e Romeo” will be performed. Our opera studio has been training Bel Canto Singers since BOF 2019, centered around master classes by Carmen Santoro, music supervisor of The Festival della Valle d’Itria and artistic director of BOF. You can take part in workshops by 1st class conductors and Bel Canto singers which the Fujiwara Opera will invite. Furthermore, you can get real experience of performing at a concert and/or open seminar class , understudy “Giulietta e Romeo” during BOF 2020. Requirements: 1. Young professional opera singer 2. Correpetiteur (Number of participants: Approx. 3 persons) 3. Max 38 years of age, born on or after December 1, 1982 4. Available to attend classes between November 16, (Thu) - December 1, (Tue), in 2020. 5. Ability to understand simple Italian or English
Audition Repertoire: (for Singers & Correpetiteurs) 3 songs in total 1. Please choose 2 opera arias from Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti. 2. 1 baroque opera aria. ※ Singers should be accompanied by a piano. Correpetiteurs should be accompanied by singer.
Audition procedures: First audition: Video based screening How to Apply 1. Send a normal DVD, or e-mail URL of private Youtube video. (In case of DVD, your name and aria’s title should be written.) (Singing to a piano accompaniment is required.) 2. Fill out the application form, and send via mail or e-mail.
Second audition: Based on the first audition recordings, applicants will be selected by music supervisor of The Festival della Valle d’Itria and the artistic director of BOF.
Tuition: Free of charge (Transportation, accommodation and other expenses related to attending the course will be paid by Applicant). ※If you have difficulty in finding accommodation, please contact us.
Application and Deadline: Please fill out the application form (separate sheet) and submit it together with video recordings of 3 repertoires by Wednesday, July 22 2020.

She collaborates with Zurich Opera House, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Theater an der Wien, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, Lithuanian National Opera in Vilnius, Theater of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Regio Theater of Parma, Petruzzelli Theater of Bari, Toscanini Foundation of Parma, Rossini Opera Festival of Pesaro, Festival of the Valle d'Itria of Martina Franca, Wexford Festival Opera, Festival Donizetti Bergamo ... She is Artistic Director of the Bel Canto Opera Festival in Japan organized by the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo. Since 1995 she has been a professor at the “A. Boito ”of Parma.
