DOMINICAN ACADEMY UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS 2017-2018
Students are required to wear the regulation uniform to and from school as well as during the school day. Good grooming and neat and proper dress are expected at all times.
● Blackwatch plaid kilts from Flynn & O’Hara are acceptable all year. Skirts ● Regulation pin-feather kilt may be worn in September, May, and June (and April for seniors). ● Skirts should be no shorter than 2” above the knee.
● Navy uniform slacks from Flynn & O’Hara are acceptable all year. ● No other slacks, or sweatpants, or leggings may be worn to, from, or Slacks during school.
● White or light blue uniform blouses or oxford shirts must be worn. ● Blouses must be pressed, neat, not oversized, and tucked into the skirt Blouses or slacks. The band of the skirt or slacks must be seen. ● A white polo with the Dominican Academy logo and provided by the uniform company may be worn with the summer uniform only.
Seniors may wear the Senior Polo all year.
● Blazers are required for all formal events, including assemblies and school liturgies. ● Dominican Academy (non-hooded) sweatshirts, uniform sweaters, vests, and blazers may be worn over the required uniform top. A student may not wear a sweater or sweatshirt without a school blouse Outerwear underneath.
● Non Dominican Academy hoodies and sweatshirts are never allowed, including during assemblies and liturgies.
● Leather dress or school shoes are acceptable. Heels higher than 1.5 inches are dangerous on the stairs and may not be worn. Acceptable shoes include: loafers, oxford shoes, leather shoes, ballet flats, other flats in brown or black. Shoes ● The following shoes styles are considered inappropriate for school: athletic shoes (including Converse, Keds, and high-tops), clogs, sandals or open-toed shoes, boots (including combat, rain/snow, UGGs, Western style boots, and booties), shoes that reach or go above
the ankle, and canvas shoes. TOMS shoes are the only exception to the rule regarding canvas footwear. Acceptable TOMS styles are limited to: classic style, in black, navy blue, or brown. Students found wearing other styles or colors of TOMS as well as other canvas shoes are subject to fines. ● Boots may be worn to and from school during rainy, cold and snowy days, but may not be worn during school and must be kept in lockers. ● Platform shoes of any style are not allowed.
● Navy, green, or black knee socks and navy, beige, or black pantyhose Stockings/ Socks may be worn with the winter skirt. ● White knee socks or white or beige pantyhose only may be worn with the summer uniform. ● Short/ankle socks and socks with any patterns are not allowed. ● Navy or black tights may be worn in cold or snowy weather. ● Leggings and leg warmers may be worn during winter on the journey to and from school. These must be blue or black, and may not be worn during the school day..
● Ornate jewelry and earlobe extenders are not acceptable. ● Multiple ear, nose and/or any visible body piercings are not Accessories/Other acceptable. Students may be suspended until these infractions are attended to. ● Unnatural hair color/hairdos and excessive make-up is not allowed. Hair colors should be those that occur naturally. ● Tattoos, including henna, may not be visible at any time. ● Caps and hats are not allowed to be worn in the building. ● Slips and other undergarments should not be visible under blouses or skirts. ● Bowties, neck ties and scarves should not be worn during the school day. ● Political pins, buttons and other paraphernalia are not allowed.
