Contestant # Reader Script Leah, from the Central Kansas District, wanted to sew a nice, simple dress this year. The easy-care, floral fabric caught her eye when she noticed one of her favorite colors, corral. The pattern she chose proved to be more challenging than anticipated. However, once she deciphered a portion of the instructions, the difficulties slipped away. The full skirt makes for a very comfortable fit. Now she has a beautiful dress to wear to her senior 1 Brooklyn Hahn homecoming dance this fall. Strut your stuff; here comes Tamara, from Shawnee County, in her Senior prom dress. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School this past May and is attending K-State, for Apparel and Textiles. Tamara loves the uniqueness of her dress, as she is the designer. She went dress shopping but never found a dress she loved so she took all the ideas she had and combined them into a one-of-kind dress. She has accessorized her dress with a belt that she created by hand stitching three strands of trim to a piece of ribbon. She has also paired her dress with a sparkly necklace and earrings as well as matching silver sparkly heels and a corsage made by her Grandma. Looking good Tamara! 3 Brooklyn Hahn Faith from Reno County knew that the wide ombre plaid she choose for this dress would need a limited amount of seems to get everything to match so she combined 2 different patterns to get the look she wanted. She used one pattern to create the bodice and a second pattern for the skirt.

Lost Shoes Forsaken footwear – Dress Shoes and Sneakers – litter the lonely locations. By busy roadsides and distant reservoirs, Slip-Ons and High Heels converge on the verges. On riverbanks, along the margins of lonely ponds, fishermen haul-up rank Gumboots and Deck Shoes, missing Brogues, a puzzling Stiletto or Kitten Heel, as though they’ve stumbled on an ill-dressed scene, a crime. And sleeping there above the flotsam line amongst the husks of dried-out fish, discarded nets, the bladder wrack and ocean’s castoffs, a lover may notice a Flip Flop or Mule, or stumble across the rarer find of a single Sling-Back or Jazz Shoe, dropped over the bows of some expensive yacht as it slooped its way across the waves in New Year’s reveries. Or yet still on building sites, in car parks or subways, a solitary Oxford or an Espadrille lingers in the grime and debris, calling to its other. And who has not passed through a summer field to find, decaying in the corn, a Sandal or a Ballet Flat, a Moccasin or Work Boot that some farmer, startled by the presence of the overlooked scarecrow, lost in his retreat through the stubble; or the scarecrow himself, loping away from his hitch-post at midnight, who kicked a leg and shucked off a Runner, a Track Spike, a Clog forever abandoned to yield a home to mice? There’s a Glass Slipper on every palace driveway. New shoes, old shoes, leather shoes that linger for forty years beneath suburban bushes. A Blücher in a park hut.

  • Adding a Back Vent to the Jenny Skirt Pattern By: Sunnilj9
Adding a Back Vent to the Jenny Skirt Pattern By: sunnilj9 http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/adding-a-back-vent-to-the-jenny-skirt-pattern One thing I found when making my Danger! Curves Ahead Pencil Skirt from the Jenny Pattern from Burda Style is that the back had a slit and not a vent or kick pleat. I have strong feelings about slits. Slits, for skirts, belong in the front along one leg, if they belong anywhere at all. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. I really feel that adding a back vent or even a kick pleat (kick pleats are closed back vents) adds real value and durability to a garment. Slits are much more likely to tear or distort over time from wear. You might also be surprised that though this little tutorial brings your skirt up a notch, its very easy to do. Weird huh? Usually things that look better on garments are much harder to do. I mean don’t you find it a relief to know that this is easy peasy? Come now, let’s cheer! OK enough silliness, down to brass tacks. So, this is a tutorial for a pencil skirt that has a slit that you want to convert to a back vent (or front vent, or side or whatever). I used the Jenny Skirt, but this tutorial will work for any skirt or dress pattern that has a slit. Step 1 — Step 1 Adding a Back Vent to the Jenny Skirt Pattern 1 OK, ready? Here we go.

  • August 5, 2021 Dedication of St. Mary Major Dear Parents and Guardians, August Is Here and We Are Sure You Are Starting to Prepa
August 5, 2021 Dedication of St. Mary Major Dear Parents and Guardians, August is here and we are sure you are starting to prepare for your children's return to school. Today I am writing with some important uniform reminders and updates! Our St. Elizabeth School uniform is an integral part of our school. It not only helps our students identify as members of the St. E’s community, but also helps to promote an appropriate, non-distracting learning environment and teaches our students about appropriate, professional dress as they grow older. We expect that all students will wear their uniform with pride and will wear it appropriately. Our school uniforms are available for purchase at Flynn and O'Hara and we also have a wonderful Uniform Exchange where you can pick up some gently used uniforms. ONE NEW UNIFORM CHANGE IS FOR SHOES. Below is the updated shoe policy. Please note that this change is being made to provide more shoe options that still maintain comfort and stability. If over time the heels of student's shoes are folded and not being worn properly, the administration will decide if the shoes are no longer appropriate. Boy's School uniform shoes- Boys in grades JK - 1 wear black or brown, slip on or velcro shoes Boys in grades 2-8- wear leather and/or canvas low-cut tie shoes, i.e. Doc Martin/Buck and boat style and canvas tie shoes. Shoes should be of one solid approved color, and the soles can be white or tan.. The approved colors are black, brown, tan, and navy.

  • Pedal Pushers: the Bicycle Industry Has Variety to Offer All Types of Cyclists by E.T
Pedal pushers: The bicycle industry has variety to offer all types of cyclists By E.T. Robbins / News Correspondent Thursday, July 10, 2003 Aaron "Sonny" Harris, owner of Harris Cyclery in West Newton, says it's a wonderful time to buy bikes. "What may have cost you $600 to $700 four to five years ago, you can now get for $300. I liken it to computers. You can get more for your money now." According to the National Sporting Goods Association, the number of people age 7 and up who participated in bicycling at least once in 2002 was 41.4 million. That's up 6.1 percent from 2001. Of course, the first rainy weeks of summer may dampen these statistics for 2003. But Harris doesn't allow weekend washouts to get him or his customers down. Harris has the lowdown on what's new and cool in bikes this season. Wanting to educate those who've been away from biking, or who want to invest in new bikes, Harris explains that there are now four categories of bikes to choose from: hybrid, comfort, mountain and road. A hybrid is a cross between a mountain and road bike and the comfort category is a spinoff of the hybrid with wider tires so it absorbs the shock of bumps and potholes better. Mountain and road bikes, as their names imply, are specifically designed for riding on mountain trails and roadways, respectively. Harris says, "Basically with these bikes, you can go wherever you want." And of course, there are subcategories to meet the needs and branding desires of manufacturers.

RACHEL EVANS Bath Spa University Leopard in Kitten Heels: The politics of Theresa May’s sartorial choices ABSTRACT This article discusses the clothing choices of Theresa May as a female Member of Parliament (MP) and as the second woman Prime Minster of Great Britain. A Conservative MP since 1997 with a conservative background growing up a Vicar’s daughter and grammar school education, Mrs May’s sartorial choices have evolved to conform with an understanding of female MP’s as proxy men and to reflect British national dress as defined by tradition. However, within this conservative persona a discordant note is struck by her choice of shoes. Not always neutral, in this article her choice of fabric is examined as a form of ‘everyday resistance’. Compromised as these choices are, her choice of leopard print kitten heels is suggested as a form of subaltern resistance.
