    LOWER SCHOOL UNIFORMS, 3rd & 4th GRADE GIRLS All uniform items available at PAWS Store—Midway Campus The majority of 3rd and 4th grade girls wear red logo polo shirts and a plaid skirt on most days. Skirts must be no shorter than one credit card length above the knee. Modesty shorts are required. On dress uniform days girls MUST wear white oxford shirts and a vest and e with their skirts. Some girls choose to wear oxford shirts on a daily or more frequent basis than only dress days, this is permied. Some girls choose to wear navy shorts or pants rather than skirts, this is acceptable, but shorts may not be worn on Thursday. Either long or short sleeved oxford or polo shirts are permied. Polo shirt hems must be at the hips or above. On chapel and special dress days girls must wear a navy cross bow e and so tapered navy v‐neck vest with embroidered logo. Navy or white socks are required. Oxfords, Keds saddle tennis or white tennis shoes are to be worn. Girls may wear a red or navy cardigan, v‐neck sweater or vest with the embroidered logo, New navy hoodie or navy or red fleece available in Paws.     August 5, 2021 Dedication of St. Mary Major Dear Parents and Guardians, August is here and we are sure you are starting to prepare for your children's return to school. Today I am writing with some important uniform reminders and updates! Our St. Elizabeth School uniform is an integral part of our school. It not only helps our students identify as members of the St. E’s community, but also helps to promote an appropriate, non-distracting learning environment and teaches our students about appropriate, professional dress as they grow older. We expect that all students will wear their uniform with pride and will wear it appropriately. Our school uniforms are available for purchase at Flynn and O'Hara and we also have a wonderful Uniform Exchange where you can pick up some gently used uniforms. ONE NEW UNIFORM CHANGE IS FOR SHOES. Below is the updated shoe policy. Please note that this change is being made to provide more shoe options that still maintain comfort and stability. If over time the heels of student's shoes are folded and not being worn properly, the administration will decide if the shoes are no longer appropriate. Boy's School uniform shoes- Boys in grades JK - 1 wear black or brown, slip on or velcro shoes Boys in grades 2-8- wear leather and/or canvas low-cut tie shoes, i.e. Doc Martin/Buck and boat style and canvas tie shoes. Shoes should be of one solid approved color, and the soles can be white or tan.. The approved colors are black, brown, tan, and navy.

I am looking for your best uniform or school hacks - from lower school shoe brands that last to folding over the upper school skirts to give them another size to grow into to using a coat hanger for pickup cards. Also, if there’s anything they *shouldn’t* do, brands to avoid, etc, that would be helpful as well. Thank you!” Uniform pants: • Old navy – o navy pants fade badly • The Children's Place o has great deals throughout the year, can get pants/shorts as low as $5-7, and they are all adjustable (and free shipping). They are my go-to. o The Children’s Place has elastic waistband navy shorts for the Kindergarteners and no need for belts (avoids accidents as they won’t need to fumble w/ belt/zipper, buttons.) The shorts are “boys” but really they’re unisex. – THESE DO NOT HAVE BELT LOOPS! o Cat & Jack, & Children's Place are my go-to brands for navy pants/shorts. The don't fade or shrink much and they seem pretty durable. • Cat & Jack (Target) o I have good luck with the Cat & Jack (Target) brand uniform pants. Also, no need to buy a skirt for every day of the week. One or 2 will do. o Targets cat and jack uniform pants and shorts for boys don’t shrink! o If you buy cat and jack pieces keep the receipt, they guarantee them for one year.

    Styling by the Sea 140 Years of Beachwear Introduction – The 1960s Everything changed. The decade of the 1960s witnessed the beginning significant alterations in American society. The conformity, and relative innocence of the 1950s gave way under the pressures associated with members of the Baby Boom generation entering young adulthood. These young adults were growing up with freedoms and a level of prosperity that contrasted dramatically with the lives of their parents who knew want and the uncertainties of war as adolescents and young adults. As teen culture became stronger, the term “Youthquake" came to mean the power of young people and was taken up in the world of fashion appearing in magazines such as Vogue under Diana Vreeland. Teenagers during this period had more time to enjoy their youth, and the freedom to create their own culture separate from their parents. These “Baby Boomers” had unprecedented buying power and corporate America was ready to capitalize on the opportunities it presented. Independent tastes in clothing and especially music began to chip away at social and racial barriers. The generational divide widened as the decade progressed and continued into the 1970s. The ease of life, and the sense of safety provided by a well-ordered world was shattered for many people by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. This tragedy was followed by the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. The tumult of this era was expressed in many ways, and one of them was in dress, and this included swimwear. The conservative classicism that characterized the 1950s gave way to miniskirts for girls and long hair for boys as they pressed the acceptable limits for modesty and gender appropriateness.

Sneakers! by Patrick Joseph Look down at your feet. What are you wearing on them? Odds are the answer is sneakers. Sneakers are everywhere. But how much do you know about this popular footwear? How were sneakers invented? What are they made of? And why are they called “sneakers” anyway? Rooted in Rubber The story of sneakers started about 500 years ago. That’s when European explorers in Central and South America noticed Native Americans playing with an unusual ball. The ball was made from a milky, white liquid that oozed out of the cahuchu (ka OO choo) tree. The liquid, known today as latex (LAY tex), hardened as it dried. Native Americans had practical uses for latex too. They spread the sticky liquid on their feet. Once it dried, it formed a very thin “shoe” that protected their feet from water. They also made waterproof bottles with latex. When explorers brought latex samples back to Europe in the early 1700s, scientists started searching for their own ways to use it. In 1770, an English chemist named Joseph Priestley discovered that the gummy stuff could rub out pencil marks. People dubbed it “rubber,” and the name stuck. The Right Stuff By the early 1800s, manufacturers in the United States and Europe had found many uses for rubber. They used the stretchy, waterproof stuff for raincoats, hoses, elastic bands, and more. But rubber wasn’t very good for making most things.
