FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

“So, they took away the stone. And Jesus raised his eyes and said, ‘Father I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me but because of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you sent me.’ And when he had said this, he cried out in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus come out.’”

The bond of Jesus and the family of Martha, Mary and Lazarus was special. The sisters offered the gift of friendship, hospitality, with an eagerness to listen to Jesus. The death of their brother prompted Jesus’ visit and tears. Jesus restored his friend’s life.

The same miracle of Jesus takes place when we seek His forgiveness, express our own sorrow and are willing to forgive others. Forgiveness is a great power we all possess, but sometimes are slow or hesitate to use it. As with Lazarus, forgiveness produces new life in us and for others. As we continue our Lenten journey may I ask for forgiveness and be ready to forgive someone else.
