We Believe In Catholic Social Justice and The Right To Life

HOPE

We were blessed to hear a homily Sunday, May 17th by our Deacon Jonathan Nestico. So many people are wondering (and some emailing with the question) When will be churches reopen? We need to pray and worship together! Think about this…

At St. Clare’s alone we have not been able to hold baptisms, weddings (some of which were planned over a year ago), funerals or quincean era. Children who have gone through nearly 2 years preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion – were not able to make those sacraments when they were sched- uled. Likewise, our Confirmation students were unable to receive that sacra- ment on May 2nd as they were scheduled.

Jonathan, our deacon – who spoke about hope – was supposed to be ordained May 30th. That too has been postponed to a later date. Imagine – 7 years of post- graduate work in the seminary – to wait until the Ordination Mass - This too will be celebrated. HOPE.

Peace.

Scripture Background for The Ascension of the Lord: Mt 28:16-20

In today’s Gospel, Jesus appears to his followers as Lord of all, and everyone who REGISTRATION FOR 2020—2021 sees him believes Jesus reminds his disciples of his life, his death, and how he was raised to new life. Jesus sends his followers out into the world to share this good news with every- one. Jesus tells his friends that he will remain with them always. The disciples are blessed to go out and continue the work of Jesus on earth.

Questions for Deeper Reflection: PROGRAM IS NOW OPEN  Why do the disciples believe in Jesus? Forms are on the website  How does Jesus bless the disciples? www.stclarere.com  Why does Jesus tell his friends that he will always be with them? (Resource: RCL Benziger/http://ww.rclblectionary.com)

GROWING WITH THE GOSPEL My Church, My Family and Me

SHARING THE GOSPEL:

Before Jesus went back to heaven, he gave his friends a very special —to share the good news! Jesus came so that the whole world could be saved, and Jesus did not want anyone to be left out. Now it’s your turn to tell your friends about Jesus, so they can go to heaven too.

PRAYER: God, thank you for my friends. Help me to treat them like you would. Show me how to tell my friends about Jesus.

MISSION FOR THE WEEK: The next time you talk to God, pray for each of your friends. Ask your friends to pray for you, too. Page 6 Saint Clare Parish May 24th, 2020 Comunidad Hispana

Catholic Life Explained Question:

Why are Catholics required to fast before Communion?

Answer:

How we prepare for an important event helps us with the intentionality of our actions and raises our awareness. We prepare our house for guests. We wash our car before an important trip. We create a nursery for a newborn child. All of these actions heighten our senses for what is about to come. RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS The fast required by canon law before holy Communion WE ARE FAMILY has its roots in Jewish spiritual practices. We fast for

Paul in the Acts of the Apostles - Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS kneeling in prayer. Early in the 4th century, the Council of Nicea prohibited kneeling on Sundays and special feasts. Kneeling began more as a posture of penance for our sins, but in the history of the Church, it has become more a posture or reverence and solemn prayer.

You will notice that the times we kneel at Mass are tied to the consecration of the holy Eucharist. We kneel in both anticipation of what will occur and then in awe of what has taken place: Jesus Christ becomes truly present to us under the guise of bread and wine. The profoundness of this event has over time led the Church to mandate in the current General Instruction of the Roman Missal that kneeling is the only posture allowed during this time. The sheer awesomeness of the holy Eucharist leads us to fall to our knees in wonder and thanksgiving.
