We, the people of St. Clare Catholic Parish, In the Diocese of Belleville, are called by God in baptism to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Centered in the Eucharist, and strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we strive to live the Gospel and further the reign of God. We do this by creating a vibrant faith community, by actively promoting justice and evangelization, and by using our gifts in the service of God’s people, to give God glory and reverence all of Creation. Lent Terms Each year at the beginning of Lent, I think it is helpful to review some of our Catholic terminology as we hear words and phrases February 20 February 25 during this season that may still be new for some people. Jim Wright Retta Dent Christopher Busse Pat Taylor Fast – doing with less…less food, fewer material things; to Ryan Luechtefeld Tom Knaust eliminate something from my daily routine in order to make Katelyn Ferguson Scott Semko more room for God in my life. Traditionally, to fast means Destiny Pascua having only one simple meal a day. But also try fasting February 21 Noah Cutter from a negative attitude or gossiping. (Officially required Kathy DeVan Meredith Hornal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday only but encouraged Edward Furrow Scarlett Balaban to do more often.) Richard Hosman Michelle Guebert February 26 Abstinence – to do without meat for the day; for some this Jessica Garcia Mary Ann Spencer may mean abstaining from something else as a sacrifice.
