BE GRATEFUL BEFORE

I just received a Christmas card along with a "note for all" from my sister-in-law. Her letter began by describing the beautiful scenery outside of her Prescott, Arizona home. Of course, she spoke briefly of the loss of my brother in May - followed by her great blessing of their life together.

That first paragraph was followed by five more short paragraphs each one mentioning her gratitude for the many blessings and gifts she has found in her life since my brother's death. All I could think of is God bless Martha. In a year that has been difficult, to say the least, she has found the good of it all.

Toward the end she talks about the gift of her faith - and her beautiful life and her family and friends and all of those things that bring her joy each and everyday.

Thank you, Martha, for reminding me to be grateful for the gifts that surround us long before we unwrap those under the tree.

Christmas blessings to each and everyone of you!

I can’t explain it. I feel a nudge from God to something out of the ordinary. How do I respond?

Just like Jesus’ parents, we need God to assist us and provide us with the strength for what lies ahead. Joseph needed God to be with him as he took Mary as his wife and became a father. Every parent needs God to become more than they can be on their own.

How do you treat those who you love? Who is there to help you when a relationship faces an obstacle? We are called to love others as our Father in heaven loves us. That is really an unreachable goal. Yet with God, all things are possible. As this Advent ends, may your Christmas be about more than presents and decorations. May the most profound gifts you give and receive be that of each other, and may your lives be decorated with the fruits of that - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK - love. “And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among - Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS us.” These eloquent and poetic words remind us of why we are here today. This is profound news to hear, but is it the news we are looking to hear? A key to faith is found when we experience the beauty, wonder, intrigue, and joy when we hear that God’s very life and light has been revealed and made manifest to his people. In the manger, we also see the cross and the whole mystery of Christ revealed. It is a mystery that tells us not only who God is but who we are and how God asks us to live. Does this news have any real meaning for us? If so, after our family celebrations and gift giving, we need to get serious about constantly giving witness to Christ. We need to get serious about calling others to Christ by how we organize and execute the daily business of our lives.
