Choice of workshops

A limited number of persons can be accepted in each activity. For this reason, each participant is asked to indicate, in order of priority, the activity in which he/she wants to take part in each of the blocks.

Block 1 – Choice of Activities Order of priority 1 to 6

Workshop 1 : How to prepare a partridge

Workshop 2 : Preparing a bannock

Workshop 3 : Hunting techniques

Workshop 4 : Pottery-making

Workshop 5 : Introduction to canoeing

Workshop 6 : Introduction to Mohawk social dances

IMPORTANT

1. Who can take part in the Gathering? Registration for the Gathering will be processed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Space is limited according to the following age groups : a. 12 to 17 years of age, necessarily accompanied by a responsible adult : 25 spaces, including accompanying adults b. 18 to 35 : 75 spaces, at the rate of 2 representatives per community c. Elders : 75 spaces, at the rate of 2 elders by community

2. Who should select the participants in the Gathering of Youth and Elders? YOUTH : We strongly recommend that the young people who will participate in the Gathering are selected by the local Youth Committee or Council. On the other hand, if the community does not have a Youth Committee or Council, the Council of the community shall inform the FNQYN of the name of the youth representatives. The FNQYN reserves the right to invite youths from various communities.

ELDERS : We strongly recommend that the Elders who will participate in the Gathering are selected by the community Elders Council. However, if the community does not have an Elders Council, the Council of the community shall inform the AFNQL of the name of the Elders who will take part in the Gathering. The AFNQL reserve the right to invite Elders from various communities.

3. What are the criteria for selecting the participants? We strongly recommend that participants in the Gathering are known as positive « leaders » involved in their community, and comfortable speaking in public.

4. Reimbursement of travel expenses The following travel expenses will be reimbursed for the participation of two (2) youths and two (2) Elders per community, in addition to 25 youths aged 12 to 17.

Expenses reimbursed : · Round trip transportation (see point 8. Transportation in the official invitation letter) · Meals while traveling to the Gathering and return to the community · The rates are 12,00 $ for breakfast, 12,00$ for lunch and 35,00 $ for supper. Expenses for these meals will be reimbursed only if it’s necessary to travel during meal times. · Once on the Gathering site, the meals, accommodations and activities related to the Gathering will be provided. However, participants will be expected to pay for any other personal expenses.

Exception: Travel expenses for 2 participants will be reimbursed for the following communities: Whapmagoostui, , Sheshatshiu, Kawawachikamach, Matikekush, Pakuashipi, Unamen Shipu.
