‘Expect Emotions’ A true story of an EURO 2008 volunteer

“Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamt about taking part in the

European or World Football Championships.

Volunteering at UEFA EURO 2008™ was a childhood dream come true. During the UEFA EURO 2008™ Final Tournament in and I was assigned to the VIP Services Team in the beautiful little Austrian city of .

VIP Services take care of important guests visiting the tournament. As a volunteer in the VIP Services Team I helped in all the preparations from Written by Anna Mróz – a the delegations‟ arrival to taking care of the VIP lounges. On the match volunteer in VIP Services days we greeted the guests and took them to their places.

in Klagenfurt at UEFA EURO 2008™. My shifts fell on match days only, but from the first day onwards I wanted to be present every day! Hence I spent the entire four weeks in and around the stadium working as an all-round volunteer; coming to the stadium at 8 am and sometimes leaving at 10 pm. It gave me lots of joy.

Being there, working hard to make EURO 2008 possible, seeing how everything is organised, meeting new people from around the world and talking to one another – this is something that can not be described in a few sentences. You have to experience it yourself!

I now have another dream – to be involved in the UEFA EURO 2012™ Volunteers programme and be part of sport Volunteering development in Poland. Volunteering at the UEFA EURO 2008™ gave me inspiration – now I know exactly what I want to do in my life!”

“You volunteers, are a key element in the organisation of the European Championship. You are the colourful public face of the event and of the host countries. Without you, the event would simply not take place.”

Volodymyr Klychko, Friend of UEFA EURO 2012™

“You all are aware of how important this tournament is for our country. Each of us should do our best to ensure that this tournament is organised at the highest level. I‟m addressing each of you now: do not ask what EURO 2012 can do for you - think what you can do for the EURO. I would like that during this championship everybody feels like they are visiting friends and that all guests feel at home. That is how it was in 2006 during the World Championship in Germany. I will do everything possible to be in during the EURO 2012 and to support the fans and players.”

Robert Korzeniowski, Friend of UEFA EURO 2012™

“I recently had the chance to admire the work of volunteers during the Special Olympics European Summer Games in Poland. If somebody still has doubts about getting involved in volunteering, he or she should listen to those who did not hesitate to help the disabled sportsmen. I will also never forget the wonderful volunteers during the Olympic Games in Sydney who sacrificed their valuable time to help me perform. They undoubtedly contributed to the two gold medals I won in Australia. I believe that the UEFA EURO 2012™ volunteers will display the most beautiful tradition of Polish and Ukrainian hospitality and that the players and their fans will remember them in the same way as I remember the Australians.” VOLUNTEER NEWSLETTER
