How will the draw work?

The draw will involve the two-top finishers in the ten qualifying groups (completed in November) and the eventual four play-off winners (decided in March 2020, and identified as play-off winners 1 to 4 for the purposes of the draw). The draw will spilt the 24 qualifiers into six groups of four. Qualified host nations will be pre- paired in the same groups.

How are seedings calculated?

Seedings will be based on overall European Qualifiers rankings, which are determined as follows: a) final position in group b) points c) goal difference d) goals scored e) away goals scored f) number of wins g) number of away wins h) lower disciplinary points total (3 points for red card including for second booking, 1 point for single yellow card for a player in a match) i) position in overall UEFA Nations League rankings (see Regulations of the UEFA Nations League) Play-off winners will therefore all be in the fourth seeding pot.

Why do some teams already know which groups they are in?

Host nations that qualify (or could qualify via the play-offs) will be placed automatically in the following groups to ensure they are at home in at least two group games:

Group A: (Olimpico in ) Group B: Russia ( ), Denmark (, ) Group C: Netherlands (Johan Cruijff ArenA, ), Romania (National Arena Bucharest) Group D: ( Stadium, ), (, ) Group E: (San Mamés Stadium, ), Republic of ( Arena) Group F: (Football Arena ), (Puskás Aréna, )

As Russia and Denmark both reached UEFA EURO 2020 via the European Qualifiers, an additional draw was held on 22 November to decide which team plays all three group stage games at home. Denmark will have three group stage home games and Russia two.

Due to decisions of the UEFA Executive Committee valid at the time of the draw, the following teams cannot be drawn together in the group stage:

/ * • Serbia / Kosovo* • Russia / Kosovo* • / Russia (the restriction also applies to St Petersburg as group match venue)

*These clashes cannot happen during the group stage, because Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Serbia are all in the play-offs and therefore in the same pot. Kosovo are part of play-off Path D and have been assigned to play in Group C or F.

All restrictions apply only to the group stage. It cannot therefore be excluded that the above- mentioned teams would meet during the knockout stage of the tournament.

COACH PROFILE

Roberto Martínez

Date of birth: 13 July 1973 Nationality: Spanish Playing career: Real Zaragoza, Balaguer, , Motherwell, Walsall, Swansea, Chester City Coaching career: Swansea, Wigan, Everton, Belgium

• Born in Catalonia, Martínez started out with home-town club Balaguer before joining Zaragoza aged 16. The bulk of his three years there were spent in the youth and B teams, with a solitary appearance for the senior side before he returned to Balaguer in 1994, also running the club's football school.

• Moved to England and Wigan in 1995, forming the 'Three Amigos' with fellow Spaniards Jesús Seba and Isidro Díaz; over the next six years, helped the club win the third division title in 1997 and the Football League trophy two years later. A year with both Motherwell and Walsall preceded a lengthier spell at Swansea between 2003 and 2006, Martínez helping the club to promotion to the third tier. After a season with Chester, he returned to south Wales in 2007, initially as player-manager before quickly hanging up his boots.

• Guided Swansea to the League One championship in 2008 before leaving for Premier League Wigan the following year. Inspired an unlikely escape from relegation in 2011/12 and landed the Latics' first major trophy with victory against Manchester City FC in the FA Cup final 12 months later – although three days after that landmark triumph, Wigan were relegated.

• Martínez remained a man in demand and was appointed Everton manager in June 2013, steering the club to fifth place with their record Premier League points tally in his first term. Everton reached the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League round of 16 and both domestic cup semi- finals in the next campaign, but indifferent league form meant Martínez was dismissed in May 2016.

• Appointed Belgium coach three months later in the wake of ' departure and led the side to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Belgium ultimately finishing third in Russia – their highest ever placing.

COACH PROFILE

Roberto Mancini

Date of birth: 27 November 1964 Nationality: Italian Playing career: Bologna, Sampdoria, Lazio, (loan) Coaching career: Fiorentina, Lazio, Internazionale Milano (twice), Manchester City, Galatasaray, Zenit, Italy

• Spent the majority of his playing career in Italy, winning titles and UEFA Cup Winners' Cups with both Sampdoria and Lazio as well as six editions of the , four with Sampdoria and two with Lazio. Capped 36 times by Italy, the forward was a bronze medallist at the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

• Started his coaching career as assistant to Sven-Göran Eriksson at Lazio before replacing at Fiorentina in 2001. After leading the Viola to the Coppa Italia, he returned to Lazio and repeated that feat as well as steering the Roman club into the UEFA Champions League and to the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 2002/03.

• Became coach of Inter in July 2004, replacing Alberto Zaccheroni one day after terminating his contract with Lazio; led the Nerazzurri to Coppa Italia glory in his debut season, Inter's first domestic honour since the 1989 Scudetto. After Juventus were stripped of their 2005/06 title and AC Milan suffered a points penalty, Inter were finally crowned champions of Italy again. Mancini repeated that success in 2006/07.

• Left Inter in May 2008 despite winning another title and replaced as manager of Manchester City midway through the 2009/10 Premier League season. City finished fifth in his first campaign, third in his second – when they also lifted the FA Cup – and dramatically won the top flight for the first time in 44 years on the final day of his third.

• City finished second the following season, but Mancini was sacked two days after losing to Wigan in the 2013 FA Cup final. Mancini succeeded Terim again that September at Galatasaray, winning the 2014 in what proved his only season; returned to Inter for two seasons from 2014 before joining Russian club Zenit in 2017, stepping down the following year to take charge of Italy.

COACH PROFILE

Joachim Löw

Date of birth: 3 February 1960 Nationality: German Playing career: Freiburg (three times), , Eintracht , , Schaffhausen, Winterthur, Frauenfeld Coaching career: Winterthur (youth), Frauenfeld, Stuttgart, Fenerbahçe, Karlsruhe, Adanaspor, Tirol , Austria Wien, Germany (assistant), Germany

• A native of the Black Forest in south-west Germany, Löw spent most of his playing days with local club Freiburg, where he had three spells, before winding down his career in Switzerland.

• Operated as a player-coach in Switzerland before becoming an assistant, and later head coach, back in Germany with Stuttgart. Succeeded in 1996 and led the Swabian side to a German Cup win in his first season and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final against Chelsea in his second.

• Left Stuttgart for Fenerbahçe but struggled to match his early success until he joined Tirol Innsbruck, guiding the team to the 2001/02 Austrian Bundesliga title. After nine months with Austria Wien he was summoned by old friend Jürgen Klinsmann to become his assistant with Germany. The pair steered the Nationalmannschaft to a third-place finish on home soil at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

• Replaced Klinsmann as head coach, taking the side to the UEFA EURO 2008 final and third place at the 2010 World Cup. They also reached the last four of UEFA EURO 2012, before qualifying unbeaten for the 2014 global finals. The real glory was to follow in Brazil, Löw leading the team to their fourth world title with a 1-0 final defeat of Argentina.

• Germany were unable to add the European title to their world crown, losing to hosts France in the UEFA EURO 2016 semi-finals. Löw led the team to a 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup triumph in Russia but a year later, in the same country, the holders' World Cup defence ended unexpectedly in the group stage.

COACH PROFILE

Andriy Shevchenko

Date of birth: 29 September 1976 Nationality: Ukrainian Playing career: Dynamo (twice), AC Milan (twice), Chelsea Coaching career: Ukraine (assistant), Ukraine

• Shevchenko enjoyed phenomenal early success with Dynamo Kyiv, the club he joined as a schoolboy, winning five successive Ukrainian titles and contributing 60 top-flight goals, including a league-best tally of 18 in 1998/99; that same season he also jointly topped the UEFA Champions League charts with eight goals as Dynamo reached the semi-finals.

• Joined Milan in July 1999 and hit the ground running, finishing top of the Serie A goal charts in his debut season (the first foreigner to achieve the feat) with 24 goals, a tally he would match the following campaign and again in 2003/04, when he led the listings once more as Milan won the Scudetto; won the Ballon d'Or in December 2004 to go with his six Ukrainian footballer of the year titles.

• Won the UEFA Champions League with the Rossoneri in 2003, scoring the decisive spot kick in the final against Juventus to crown an injury-curtailed campaign; however, missed crucially from the spot in the 2005 showpiece against Liverpool.

• Left Milan in 2006 with 127 Serie A and 37 European goals to his credit, but a move to Chelsea did not work out and he returned to Milan for an equally unsuccessful loan spell in 2008/09 before making the permanent move back to Dynamo a year later.

• Ukraine's record scorer by a distance with 48 goals in 111 appearances, he captained the team to the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and became the first player to reach the 100- cap milestone for Ukraine, in October 2010. Scored twice in a famous win against Sweden at UEFA EURO 2012, his international swansong.

• After a short-lived foray into politics, appointed assistant to Ukraine coach Mykhaylo Fomenko, taking over as head coach after UEFA EURO 2016 but losing out to Iceland and eventual runners-up Croatia in their qualifying section for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Better followed in the inaugural UEFA Nations League, Ukraine winning promotion into League A.

COACH PROFILE

Ronald Koeman

Date of birth: 21 March 1963 Nationality: Dutch Playing career: Groningen, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Coaching career: Netherlands (assistant), Barcelona (assistant), Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, Southampton, Everton, Netherlands

• One of the classiest ball-playing defenders in history, Ronald Koeman was also a frequent goalscorer, mostly from free-kicks and penalties. He began his career at Groningen before spending three seasons apiece at Ajax and PSV.

• The 1987/88 season was one of extraordinary achievement for the blond right-footer, who collected the Dutch domestic double as well as the European Cup with PSV and then proved an equally inspirational figure with the Netherlands at EURO '88, where they captured their only major international trophy to date.

• Koeman subsequently shone during a six-year spell at Barcelona – during which he played at three further tournaments for the Oranje, ending up with 78 caps and 14 goals. The highlight of his time in Catalonia was his winning goal in the 1992 European Cup final against Sampdoria at Wembley, giving Barça their first continental crown. He also won four Liga titles with the club.

• After ending his playing days at Feyenoord, Koeman took on assistant coach roles with the Netherlands then Barcelona before branching out on his own at the turn of the millennium and embarking on what would be a highly eventful coaching career. Having played for each of the Netherlands' clubs he became the first man to coach all three as well, winning two titles with Ajax, one with PSV and reinvigorating Feyenoord during a productive tenure from 2011 to 2014.

• He departed to pursue his career in England, firstly with Southampton, then Everton, with whom he parted company in October 2017. The following February he was appointed as the Netherlands’ Bondscoach on a contract taking him through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and led the Oranje to the inaugural UEFA Nations League Finals ahead of France and Germany, seeing off England in the semi-finals only to lose to hosts Portugal in the decider.

Date of birth: 1 June 1952 Nationality: Turkish Playing career: Sebat Gençlik, Coaching career: Trabzonspor (four times), Boluspor, İstanbulspor, , Sakaryaspor, Turkey (twice), , Bursaspor, Beşiktaş

• Born in the Black Sea port of Trabzon, Günes became a legendary figure at his local club, keeping goal in the Trabzonspor side that won the Turkish league title six times – and three Turkish Cups – during his 15-year spell from 1972 to 1987; also won 31 caps for Turkey, captaining the team on five occasions.

• Made the natural transition from player to coach at Trabzonspor after hanging up his gloves, moving up swiftly from assistant to head coach; returned after spells with Boluspor and İstanbulspor, claiming the Turkish Cup in 1995 and a league runners-up spot in 1996.

• After brief spells with Antalyaspor and Sakaryaspor he was appointed Turkey coach in 2000 and proved an immediate hit, leading the country not only to their first FIFA World Cup finals in 48 years but all the way to the semi-finals, and third place, at the 2002 tournament in Korea/ Japan.

• Left Turkey after failure to qualify for UEFA EURO 2004 and returned to Trabzonspor but reign was brief and later resurfaced in South Korea with Seoul. Returned to Trabzonspor for the fourth time in December 2009, winning the Turkish Cup and Super Cup the following year and finishing second in the 2010/11 Süper Lig.

• Spent 2014/15 at Bursaspor, guiding them to the Turkish Cup final, before taking over at Beşiktaş in June 2015. Went on to win the league title in his debut season, his first championship as a coach; made it two in a row in 2016/17 and took the club into the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds for the first time the following season. Agreed to take charge of Turkey for a second time in January 2019.

COACH PROFILE

Åge Hareide

Date of birth: 23 September 1953 Nationality: Norwegian Playing career: Hødd, Molde (twice), Manchester City, Norwich Coaching career: Molde (twice), Helsinborg (twice), Brøndby, Rosenborg, Norway, Örgryte, Viking, Malmö, Denmark

• Having trained as a tax accountant before turning professional, Hareide was a physical defender who represented his country 50 times between 1976 and 1986. His club career took him from Molde to Manchester City and then Norwich in the English top flight.

• Hareide made the transition to coaching before hanging up his boots. After returning from England he acted as Molde player-coach for two seasons. From 1987 he focused solely on coaching and a second spell as Molde boss brought his first silverware – the 1994 Norwegian Cup. His first trophy in Sweden was also the cup, with Helsingborg in 1998. In 2003, Hareide added a further Norwegian Cup as coach of Rosenborg.

• Hareide is the only coach to have won league titles in Sweden (Helsingborg 1999, Malmö 2014), Denmark (Brøndby 2001/02) and Norway (Rosenborg 2003).

• Coached Norway from January 2004 until December 2008. Under Hareide, Norway made it to the play-offs for the 2006 FIFA World Cup but lost 2-0 on aggregate to the Czech Republic.

• Returned to Helsingborg in 2012 for a six-month spell and steered the side to the UEFA Champions League play-offs. In January 2014 he was appointed by Malmö, leading them to the Swedish title and into the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time at the start of 2014/15. He repeated the feat when Malmö progressed via the play-offs in 2015/16, before being appointed Denmark coach in December 2015, leading his side to the 2018 World Cup and ultimately the round of 16 in Russia. Oversaw promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League later that year.

COACH PROFILE

Janne Andersson

Date of birth: 29 September 1962 Nationality: Swedish Playing career: Alet (twice), Halmia, Laholm Coaching career: Alet, Halmstad (assistant, twice), Laholm, Halmstad, Örgryte, Norrköping, Sweden

• Jan 'Janne' Andersson succeeded Erik Hamrén as Sweden coach after UEFA EURO 2016 having led Norrköping to their first title in 26 years the previous autumn.

• A footballer and player in his native Halmstad, Andersson became assistant coach to at the city's main club in 1990, going on to work under Tom Prahl and then .

• Andersson, who also coached lower-division teams Alet and Laholm, took the Halmstad reins himself in 2004 and in his first season in charge was named coach of the year in Sweden after steering Halmstad to second place.

• After a brief spell at second-tier Örgryte in 2010, Andersson was named Norrköping coach the following year as they returned to the Allsvenskan, at first keeping them up then unexpectedly guiding them to the 2015 title.

• Although his appointment as Sweden coach meant he missed out on leading Norrköping into UEFA Champions League qualifying, Andersson made up for that by taking Sweden to the 2018 FIFA World Cup via a famous play-off win against Italy and then guiding them to the quarter- finals in Russia. More success followed later that year, Sweden winning promotion to League A of the UEFA Nations League.

EURO finals: The UEFA was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries

A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches

For statistical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
