O Captain My Captain: With the 2006-07 roster being dominated by upperclassmen, coach Sal Buscaglia has decided to use four first-time captains. Seniors Sugiery Monsac, Psyche Butler, Natasha Sumemrville and Jenna Burkett will have the task of leading the Colonials during the 2006-07 season.

Boy Have Things Changed: In a span of just three years Sal Buscaglia has turned the Robert Morris University women’s basketball team into a perenial conference power. When Buscaglia arrived at RMU the Colonaisl had only won seven games the previous three seasons. After suffering through his worst season record-wise as a head coach in 2003-04, Buscaglia turned his team into a 20-team. After going 20-9 last seaon, Buscaglia became the fist head coach in the program’s history to guide a team to back-to-back 20 win seasons.

This Years Recruiting Class: RMU was able to obtain two new additions for the roster this season, Chinata Nesbit and Markesha Smith. Nesbit played two season at Chipola Junior College before signing with the Colonials this sea- son. She averaged 15.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Chipola. Nesbit was also selected to the 2005-06 Kodak All-America Second Team and the NJCAA All-Tournament team. She was ranked 23rd overall in the nation and the fifth best wing forward by the Adidas All-Star Report. Smith is a freshman who played her senior sea- son of high school basketball at Oak Hill Prep where she averaged 16 points and 6 assists per game. As a junior at DW Daniel High School she averaged 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals per game over three years at DW Daniel High School and was named First Team All-Conference her freshman, sophomore and junior season. Smith also, Garnered All-South Carolina First Team honors her sophomore and junior year and was named confer- ence player of the year her junior year. 2006-07 Colonial Women’s Basketball Game Notes - Page 10 RMU 2005-06 Statistical Trends Robert Morris is ...
