YMCA RULES 7-8 Year Old Boys and Girls

All Basketball rules and violations will be governed by National Federation of State High School Associations rules. The following exceptions apply:

Playing Time: Each player SHALL play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time. Substitutions can be made at any dead ball during the game

Time There will be four 8- quarters and the clock will run. Teams will have one minute between quarters. Each team will receive four (1) minute timeouts to use during the game and clock will stop during the time outs.

Possession/Start of game A will begin the game. Alternating possessions will take effect thereafter for each quarter of the game.

Defense Defense must be played inside the 3 line. Any defensive alignment is allowed inside the 3 point line. The defense cannot come out of that area to intercept a pass, guard an offensive player, or attempt a steal. Inside the defensive area, the defense cannot attempt a steal while the offensive player has control of the ball. Change of possession off a pass, or loose ball is allowed. In the last two minutes of each half, teams will be allowed to play up to half court.

Fouls/Penalties : This will be called on the offensive half of the court. : This will be called on the offensive half of the court. Fouls: All fouls on the defense will result in the offense maintaining possession of the ball and taking the ball out to the closest location on where the occurred. There will be no shooting fouls in this age group. 10 second backcourt: Teams will have 10 seconds to advance the ball past half court 5 second in-bounds: Teams will have 5 seconds to put the ball from out of bounds

Coaches  One coach is permitted to be on the court at a time.  Coaches will be responsible for the behavior of their teams and parents

Spectators  Fans are encouraged to cheer and support both teams. All are expected to be courteous and be positive role models for players. Spectators will respect coaches, players, game officials and other spectators at YMCA events
