High-mounted General information on high-mounted headlamps General information on high-mounted headlamps

The high-mounted headlamps function replaces normal headlamps and direction in- dicator lamps, for example if a snow plough is fitted at the front. Using a switch, it is easy to switch between normal headlamps and the high-mounted headlamps.

Information on complementary equipment is available under Chassis conditions later in this document.

Note: The option package is only available for left-hand drive vehicles.

Connection options There are two different connection options depending on which control unit for the regulation of sight and visibility functions the vehicle is equipped with. The latest one is called CUV2 in the document and the previous one CUV1. The control unit version can be seen from the vehicle’s individual chassis specification, ICS. The con- nection alternatives do not have any clear chassis number limit, therefore variant codes are used instead.

Control unit Variant code CUV2 3115B

CUV1 3115A 325 030

The individual chassis specification (ICS) is included when the individual main di- mension drawing (ICD) is ordered. This is done under the Drawings tab (requires login).

Preparations from factory

Switch The switch is used to switch between normal and high-mounted headlamps. The switch is located on the instrument panel to the right of the . Only main beam and dipped beam can be controlled using the switch.

Cable harness The cable harness included in the option package provides the power supply for the high-mounted headlamps, direction indicator lamps and position lamps. The cable harness is equipped with two connectors, C364 and C365.

Selecting headlamps SDP3 (Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3) is used to adjust a parameter for the type of selected for the high-mounted headlamps, H4, H7 or xenon (dual filament or single filament). This is carried out by a Scania workshop. If the parameter for xenon lamps is selected, the main and dipped beam in the high- mounted headlamps will come on at the same time when the main beam is activated.

Description of the function and power output When the high-mounted headlamps are activated using the switch, the following hap- pens:

• Headlamp wipers and headlamp washers are disengaged • Main and dipped beam in the normal headlamps are switched off • Front foglight is disconnected • The high-mounted headlamps are activated

Other lights which are activated operate normally. Direction indicators and position lights are always activated both in the upper and lower headlamps.

Note: If the vehicle is configured for daytime running lights, dipped beam in the high- mounted headlamps will operate as daytime running lights when the switch is changed over. The normal daytime running lights are off.

Detection of broken bulb function

IMPORTANT!

Always turn off the power with the starter key before renewing bulbs.

The detection of broken bulb function is connected to the instrument cluster. In order for the function to work for the direction indicators, the following must be carried out.

For vehicles with CUV2 Change the number of lamps from 2 to 3 using SDP3.

For vehicles with Xenon lights or H4 without mudguard exten- sions (CUV1) Change the number of lamps from 2 to 3 using SDP3. 327 117

On vehicles with H4 lamps and mudguard extensions (CUV1) Since the vehicle is already factory-fitted with 3 direction indicators, one of the nor- mal lamps must be removed. Scania recommends to keep the direction indicator in the footstep (see the top illustration) and that the upper rear direction indicator is re- moved1 (see lower illustration).

No modification with SDP3 is necessary for this. 327 124

1. The direction indicator in the footstep meets EU’s legal requirements for rear visibility.

Removing bulb in direction indicator (CUV1)

1. Undo the 2 screws in the direction indicator and open it (see upper illustration). 2. Lift the direction indicator fitting diagonally upwards at the front so that it is de- tached from the lower joint. 3. Let the direction indicator fitting drop down and it will be released. 4. Remove the upper rear bulb from the direction indicator fitting. The bulb can also be changed to 5 W. The detection of broken lamp still functions for other direc- tion indicator lamps (see the lower illustration). 327 124 325 035
