Telekom, and O2 all banking on the mpass payment system

 Telekom joins the mpass initiative of O2 and Vodafone  Mobile payment system now with over 20 million pre-registered customers  German mobile network operators emphasise their commitment to the pay- ment market

Düsseldorf//Munich, November 23, 2010. Deutsche Telekom is now banking on the mobile payment system mpass like the founding partners Vodafone and Telefónica

O2 . The Bonn-based provider has thus become an equal member of the payment initiative. mpass enables purchases on the to be paid for easily and securely. The ad- vantage of paying with mpass is that sensitive customer data such as bank details must not be entered during the purchasing process and these data are not transmitted to retailers. The authorisation of the payment order is only possible via the buyer's . mpass was initiated in 2009 by Vodafone and O2 and has been developed on an ongo- ing basis ever since. The latest optimisation, which is already being implemented to- gether with Telekom, allows the model to be opened up for further payment integrators.

As a result of Telekom's involvement, mpass has also expanded its participant base of already pre-registered post-paid customers to over 20 million. Pre-paid customers and customers of other mobile network providers with a bank account in Germany can also use mpass by signing up at www.mpass.de in just a few steps. Therefore mpass is one of the most far-reaching payment methods on the German market.

make it the most important payment procedure in Germany", commented Jochen Bor- nemann, Head of Payments & Enabling Services at , and Michael Kurz, Head of Corporate Wholesale at Telefónica O2. "Together with Vodafone and O2 we will further optimise the mpass business model and gradually tap into new market segments", says Stefan Eulgem, Head of Enabling Services in the Value-Added Services Centre at Telekom Deutschland.

Today it is already possible to use mpass in numerous online and mobile shops. Thanks to the partnership with large payment integrators, the number of acceptance points will multiply over the next few years. In addition to use in e-commerce and m- commerce, mpass will also offer mobile payment options in stationary trade.
