ANBP Newsletter The Afghanistan’s New Beginnings Programme (ANBP) is a project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It was created in April 2003 to assist the Government of Afghanistan in implementing Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR). DDR was successfully completed in June 2006. ANBP is now involved in two security related projects: the Anti Personnel Mines & Ammunition Stockpile Destruction Project and the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG).

Afghanistan’s New Beginnings Programme (ANBP) Supports the Management of Arms and Armies (MAA) Programme in Nepal

In December, 2006, UNDP’s Afghanistan’s New Beginnings Programme (ANBP) was requested to send a team of experts to Nepal in order to support the newly designed Management of Arms and Armies (MAA) programme. ANBP sent a team of 10 expert national staff members which comprised of operations, ICT and programme support personnel to provide training to the Nepalese national staff who were to manage the MAA programme.

The Afghan Team started providing training for the newly recruited national staff in terms of registration, acquainting them with personnel and weapons recording database, reporting system and Kathmandu, Nepal, Homa Jawad ANBP operation officer also providing training and briefing for the UN Monitors who were under the direct supervision of the Office of Personal Representative of the Secretary General (OPRSG) Nepal. Farkhar DIAG development project expected to be launched soon

After satisfactory cooperation with the DIAG process by commanders of Farkhar District in , the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) this month announced the tender for the DIAG Micro Hydropower Project in the capital of the district. It is anticipated that a contractor will be selected during February and that the contract for implementation of the project will be awarded soon after.

The launch of the micro hydropower project in Farkhar will give a promising hope to the public to return of prosperity in their community. Jangle Bagh is the third depot that Afghanistan’s New Beginnings Programme (ANBP) has officially handed over to the Ministry of Defence.
