Natural disaster Assessment and Response Update:

Helmand: (Update of the flood Incident on 10 March) Total number of families verified: 2,475 Total number of families assisted: 0 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 2,475= The distribution is planned tentatively on 22 April 2019 as access to the district for distribution is being coordinated. Dishu district: As per the initial report from ANDMA, 400 families were reportedly affected due to flood in Dishu district on 10 March. A joint team consisting of IOM, HRDA, IRC and AAH conducted the assessment of the affected families. 255 families were identified eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM will distribute NFIs and emergency shelter while food needs will be covered by WFP. The distribution is expected to commence by 22 April.

Khanshin district:

On 10 Mar 2019 Helmand ANDMA reported 1,500 Families affected due to flood, joint assessment team consisting of IOM, HRDA, IRC and AAH that verified 1,008 families eligi- ble for humanitarian assistance. IOM will distribute NFIs and emergency shelter while WFP committed to distribute food items. The distribution is expected to commence by 22 April.

Garmser district:

As per the initial report obtained from ANDMA, 1,600 families were reportedly affected due to flood on 10 March 2019. A joint team consisting of IOM, HRDA, IRC and verified 1,061 families eligible for humanitarian assistance. The NFI needs of affected families will be covered by IRC through provision of cash for NFIs while WFP will distribute food items.

Marja district:

The initial report by Helmand ANDMA indicated damages to an unknown number of houses. Joint assessment team consisting of IRC, AAH, HAPA, APA verified 151 families eligible for humanitarian assistance. The NFI needs of affected families will be covered by IRC through provision of cash for NFIs while WFP will distribute food items.

Balkh: Total number of families verified: 945 Total number of families assisted: 927 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 18 Heavy rainfall caused massive flooding on 28 and 29 March that resulted in damages and causalities in Sholgara, Dehdadi, Chemtal and Mazar city. Six Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, DACCAR, SCI, ACTED, CARE, DoRR, DRRD, ANDMA and ARCS conducted assessment that identified 187 families (49 houses completely destroyed & 138 severely damaged) in Mazar Sharif. IOM distributed emergency shelter kits, family tents, household items, blankets and solar lanterns while on 31 March and 1st April 2019; WFP, ANDMA, UNICEF and SCI distributed food items, hygiene kits and children clothing. ARCS conducted assessment in Sholgara and Chemtal districts that are inaccessible for other humanitarian partners. 458 families (82 houses destroyed and 376 severely dam- aged) were identified in need of humanitarian assistance. In addition; four persons were killed and two sustained injuriesin Chemtal district. ARCS distributed NFIs and WFP and ANDMA distributed food items to 161 affected families in Sholgara on 1st April. ARCS, UNICEF, WFP and ANDMA distributed NFIs and food items to remaining 297 families of Chemtal district on 4th April. Due flood on 04 and 05 April 2019 reportedly 30 families were affected in Khulm district. Joint assessment team consistingof IOM, SCI, DACCAR, CARE, WFP and ANDMA identi- fied 15 families (5 houses completely destroyed and 10 severely damaged). In addition; the pending individual petitions in Mazar Sharif assessed, 91 families (12 houses com- pletely destroyed, 79 Severely damaged) were identified that were assisted by IOM with the provision of household items, blanket modules, shelter modules, clothing, family tents and hygiene by IOM SCI, UNICEF, CARE, while WFP and ANDMA distributed food items on 7th April. Per initial reports; several families were affected by flood in Kohe Alburz village of Chemtal district. ARCS identified 176families eligible for assistance. Per PDMC meeting on 8th April; UNICEF and ANDMA distributed NFIs while WFP and ANDMA covered food needs of the affected families. Reportedly around 20 families were affected by landslide in 3 villages of Charkent district on 15 April 2019. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, WFP, CARE, SCI, ACTED verified 18 families in need of humanitarian assistance. CARE will distribute tents, UNICEF hygiene kits and ANDMA will cover food needs of the affected families.

Faryab: Total number of families verified: 2,035 Total number of families assisted: 1,676 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 359 Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, SCI, WFP/PAT, DACCAR, ACTED ANDMA, DoRR and ARCS assessed Khwaja Sabz Posh and Maimana districts. The teams have so far identified 519 families (259 houses completely destroyed and 260 severely damaged). In addition; four persons were killed one sustained injury in Khawaja Sabzposh. IOM dis- tributed household items, blankets, clothing module, emergency shelter kits and family tents to 519 families in Maimana and Khwaja Sabzposh districts while ANDMA and SCI distributed food items and emergency shelter repair kits ARCS conducted assessment in Shreen Tagab and Dawlat Abad districts that are inaccessible for other humanitarian partners, 1,157 families (686 houses destroyed, 471 severe- ly damaged), ARCS distributed NFIs while ANDMA distributed food items. Due to inaccessibility issues; ARCS initially agreed to assess Almar, Qaysar and Pashtoonkot districts but due to limited resources they were not able to cover the caseload, hence joint assessment team consisting of IOM, SCI, ACTED and DACAAR initiated assessment that has so far verified 279 families in Almar and Qaysar and 80 families in Pash- tonkot district. The assessment in Almar is still on-going while the assessment in Pashtonkot is concluded. The response is planned for next week.

Jawzjan: Total number of families verified: 638 Total number of families assisted: 232 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 406 Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, ANDMA, SCI, ACTED, DACAAR, RRD, DoRR and WFP assessed flood affected areas and identified 232 families (134 houses completely destroyed & 98 severely damaged) in Sheberghan city. IOM distributed emergency shelter kits, family tents, household items, blankets and solar lanterns on 04 April while WFP, ANDMA, SCI and ACTED distributed food items, shelter repair kit and hygiene kits. ARCS obtained reports from their local volunteers in Qoshtepa and Darzab districts indicating 144 families affected in Qoshtepa, 235 families in Darzab and 600 in Dashti Laili districts, ARCs conducted the assessment of the affected families, 406 families were found eligible for humanitarian assistance. ARCs and UNICEF will distribute NFIs and AND- MA will covered food needs of the affected families.

Sari Pul: Total number of families verified: 670 Total number of families assisted: 670 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 0 A Joint Assessment team consisting of by IOM, ANDMA, WFP, SCI, ZoA and DoRR verified 155 families (23 houses destroyed and 132 severely damaged) in need of humanitarian assistance. IOM distributed emergency shelter kits, household items and blankets while ANDMA, WFP and SCI distribute food items and hygiene kits on 04 April. Various inaccessible villages in Saripul center were assessed by ARCS, 515 families (3 houses destroyed and 513 severely damaged) were verified. UNICEF distributed NFIs while hygiene kits is distributed by ARCS.

Badakhshan: Total number of families verified: 278 Total number of families assisted: 278 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 0 ANDMA reported damages to an unknown number of houses due to flooding in the morning of 04 April in Kishim and Darayem districts, the initial report also indicated damag- es and blockage of the road to some village in the district center. Two assessment teams consisting of IOM, ANDMA and WFP assessed the damages in Kishim district while the second team consisting of ANDMA, ACTED and WFP assessed damages in Darayem district. 241 families verified in several villages of Kishim district needing humanitarian assistance. IOM distributed, household items, blankets and emergency shelter while ANDMA distributed food items. In addition, 37 families verified affected in Darayem district, IOM distributed NFIs and ANDMA covered food needs of the affected families.

Samangan: Total number of families verified: 12 Total number of families assisted: 0 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 12 Following flood incident on 11 April 2019; initial report indicated 20 houses impacted. An assessment team consisting of IOM, WFP, ANDMA identified 12 families. IOM distrib- uted emergency shelter, family module, blanket module, solar module and winter clothing while ANDMA and UNICEF distributed food items and hygiene kits.

Takhar Province: Total number of families verified: 22 Total number of families assisted: 0 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 22 Joint assessment team identified 19 families in and 1 family in Rustaq and two families in Kalafgan districts affected by flood. IOM and CONERN distributed NFIs while WFP, ANDMA and DACCAR distributed food items and hygiene kits on 8th April 2019

Kunduz Province: Total number of families verified: 147 Total number of families assisted: 147 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 0 Due to heavy rainfall on 5th April reportedly houses were impacted in city and Khanabad district. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA and partners were mobilized that identified 147 families in Kunduz city and district. SCI distributed NFIs to the affected families.

Herat: Total number of families verified: 114 Total number of families assisted: 114 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 0 As per initial report from ANDMA, 150 families were severely affected by flood in Guzarah, Injil and Herat city on 14 April. A joint team consisting of IOM, IRC, DRC, WFP, DACAAR, OXFAM and ANDMA conducted assessment of the affected families on 15 April 2019. 114 families were identified eligible for humanitarian assistance of which 60 families in were relocated overnight that followed distribution of relief assistance by IOM and ANDMA. IOM distributed NFIs to 88 families while the rest of needs will be covered by OXFAM through multi-purpose cash assistance.

Badghis: Total number of families verified: 3,763 Total number of families assisted: 317 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 3,446 As per information received from ANDMA; over 1000 families are affected by flood in Qala-E-Naw, Qadis, Jawand and districts on 29 Mar 2019. Joint assessment teams composed of IRC, WV, WFP, UNCEF, DACAAR, ARCS and government line departments initiated assessments that has so far identified 2,598 families in mentioned dis- tricts eligible for humanitarian assistance. UNICEF distributed NFI to 105 families and ANDMA distributed Food items, WFP committed to cover the food need for all identified families, and IRC committed to distribute NFIs to 2,260 families. In a separate flood incident reported by ANDMA, 1,250 families affected by flood in Qala-E-Naw on 4 April. A joint needs assessment team consisted of IOM, IRC, WFP, DAIL, RRD, ANDMA, UNICEF, STDCO, and ARCS identified 1,165 families affected by flood and eligible for humanitarian assistance.IOM distributed NFIs and emergency shelter to 85 families, UNICEF distributed NFIs to 213 families, food needs is referred to WFP and remaining 3,465 families in inaccessible districts have yet to be assisted for which coordina- tion is on-going. In a sperate flood incident on 15 April, 30 families were reportedly affected in Qala-E-Naw city. A joint team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, IRC, WVI,WFP,RRD, PC, NRC and DACAAR conducted assessment on 16 April. 19 families were identified eligible for humanitarian assistance, IOM distributed NFIs and ANDMA covered food needs of the affect- ed families.

Ghor: Due to heavy rainfall on 15 April reportedly; two houses were affected in Lal district. District arthurites will conduct the assessment of the affected families and will share the outcome of the assessment with humanitarian agencies.

Kunar: Due to heavy rainfall on 10 April, 19 families were reportedly affected in Asad Abad, Marawara, Shegal, Sarkano, and Khas Kunar districts, A joint team consisting of IOM WFP, ANDMA and district authority assessed the affected areas and found 14 families in Asad Abad, Marawara, Shegal, Sarkano and Khas Kunar districts. IOM distributed NFIs and WFP covered food needs of the affected families. In a separate incident on 16 April, 122 families were reportedly affected by flood in Nary, Shegal, Dara Pech and Asmar districts. The assessment team will be mobilized on 17 April to assess the needs of the affected families.

Laghman: Reportedly due heavy rainfall on 16 April, 22 families were affected and one person was killed in Mehtarlam and Qarghy district. IMC, and WFP will conduct assessment of the affected families.

Kabul: Total number of families verified: 318 Total number of families assisted: 0 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 318 As per initial report from ANDMA, over 400 families were reportedly affected by flood in PD-16, PD-16, PD-13, PD-17, PD-5 PD-9, PD-21, Qarabagh, Khakjabar and Shakardara on 13 April. A joint team consisting of IOM, DRC, CARE, DACAAR, Save the children, ANDMA and IDS/WFP initiated assessment of the affected families on 14 April. So far, 318 families were identified eligible for humanitarian assistance while the assessment in Qarabagh, Khakjabr and Shakardara districts are on-going.

In separate incident on 15 April, 137 families were reportedly affected by flood in Sorubi district, a joint assessment team will be mobilized for assessment of the affected fami- lies.

Parwan: Total number of families verified: 142 Total number of families assisted: 0 Ongoing and Planned distribution: 142 As per initial report from ANDMA, 270 families were reportedly affected by flood in Bagram, Salang, Siagard and Shinwari districts on 15 April. A joint team consisting of IOM, DACCAR, CARE, IDF/WFP, ARCs, ANDMA and DG initiated assessment of the affected families on 16 April 2019. So far, 142 families were found eligible for humanitarian assis- tance in Bagram while the assessment is on-going in the affected areas.

Ghazni: As per the initial report from district authorities; two houses were reportedly affected by floods in Zana Khan district.Due to security concerns ARCs will conduct the assess- ment of the affected families.

Khost: As per the initial report from ANDMA, 15 families were reportedly affected by heavy rainfall in Tani, Mandozi and Matoon districts on 15-April-2019. A joint team consisting of IRC, ANDMA, DRRD, ARCS, DoRR will conduct the assessment of the affected families on 19 April.

Paktya: As per the initial report from ANDMA, Six families were reportedly affected, three five persons including two children sustained injuries due to heavy rainfall in Jaji, Chamkani, Ahmaad Aba and Said Karam districts. Joint assessment team consisting of IOM, CARE, IRC, ARCS, ANDMA and DRRD conducted the assessment of the affected families. So far 34 families were identified while the assessment is on-going. The second round of the community based disaster risk management (CBDRM) training workshop initiated in two communities of Kandahar and Herat provinces.

- One community in , Nahr Rawza villages, the training start on 13 April for five days. 40 members of the community (20 male and 20 female) including a staff from ANDMA participated in the training.

- One community in , Zinda Jan villages, the training start on 13 April for five days. 40 members of the community (20 male and 20 female) including a staff from ANDMA participated in the training.
