8. Outreach. WWOZ Outreach distributed all 3,500 WWOZ Brass Passes in the weeks prior to Jazz Fest 2015, and aimed to encourage Brass Pass holders to think of themselves as members of WWOZ, and not simply purchasers of a ticket package, by offering free gifts and enhanced customer service. The Outreach team met with members to distribute WWOZ Brass Passes at the , Whole Foods Market (Uptown and Metairie), Rouses Supermarket in the CBD, at WWOZ itself, and at the Fair Grounds during Jazz Fest, where we were able to enhance WWOZ branding this year, at both the WWOZ will call booth and the WWOZ Hospitality Tent.

9. New Media. During the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, we made extensive use of Spider by oneQube, a “social listening platform” that allowed the WWOZ New Media team to track WWOZ- and Jazz Fest-related Twitter activity in real time. The platform enabled WWOZ to respond to its Twitter followers and fans in a timely manner and to choose our shared content more intelligently, increasing our audience. WWOZ.org saw a significant increase in streaming activity during Jazz Fest 2015 compared to Jazz Fest 2014: WWOZ’s live audio stream was used by 99,756 unique listeners, an increase of 35% over 2014. WWOZ’s posts on its Facebook page saw a total of 781,503 impressions (the number of times our content was either displayed in a user’s news feed or ticker, or liked, commented upon or shared by a user), up from 638,799 impressions during Jazz Fest 2014. The WWOZ website featured a splash page promotion WWOZ Piano Night for the first time, during the first weekend of Jazz Fest 2015. The New Media team was able to post sessions from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s 2015 Sync Up Conference to the Foundation’s YouTube channel within 24 hours.

10. WWOZ Video. WWOZ Video and New Media provided a live-stream of sessions from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's 2015 Sync Up Conference, held at the George & Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center on April 24-25, 2015 and May 1-2, 2015. WWOZ Video also streamed the New Orleans Museum of Art’s International Jazz Day second line parade, led by trumpeter Terence Blanchard and Latin percussionist Poncho Sanchez, on April 30, 2015. The parade began on the steps of the museum and ended at the gates of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. WWOZ Video curated a special series of film screenings at Indywood Cinema to celebrate the first weekend of Jazz Fest and Jazz Fest performers: The Harder They Come (1972), directed by Perry Henzell; Monterey Pop (1968), directed by D.A. Pennebaker; and Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue (2004), directed by Murray Lerner.

12. Crystal Gross. WWOZ Development Director Crystal Gross submitted her resignation as WWOZ's Development Director, effective Friday, May 8, 2015. Ms. Gross joined WWOZ in 2007, and her most notable contributions to WWOZ were in the areas of membership development and marketing. Among the many successful projects she championed were the WWOZ cookbook That Sounds Good!, the Cuttin’ Class series, the “Guardians of the Groove” marketing campaign and, most recently, WWOZ's celebration of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Indian Queens. She will be missed and we certainly wish her well in all her future endeavors. In order to assure continuity, WWOZ has hired Mark Laskowski, who brings 26 years of development experience, as an Interim Chief Development Officer.

Her 2015 appearances include WWOZ-FM’s Piano Night, Friday night at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carré and Saturday afternoon at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell. Ball has been a regular at the annual Piano Night, a benefit for community radio station WWOZ, since she became the first woman to perform at the event.”

“Yes, the extra proceeds generated by the platinum touring acts go toward the support of local music and culture programs through the Jazz & Heritage Foundation and the great WWOZ-FM. But the growing inclusion of top-dollar, out-of-town headliners is no celebration of the New Orleans spirit.”

“For more than 20 years, Dale Koehl and his family have made the WWOZ Mango Freeze served at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as a fundraiser for the community radio station. Koehl works in construction and real estate, and Mango Freeze is a seasonal avocation for him. WWOZ FM General Manager David Freedman estimates sales of the sorbet have raised more than half a million dollars for the station.”

NolaDefender.com: “Keys to the Cause: Piano Night Comes to HOB” April 27, 2015

“WWOZ is no stranger to the fundraiser. While the Mango Freeze reigns as the crowd favorite, locals also hold a special appreciation for Piano Night. The annual bash features more key masters than a locksmith shop. Today, Piano Night returns to the House of Blues (225 Decatur Street) at 7:00 p.m. This year, the event will honor Henry Butler. Butler is a local born piano legend once described by Dr. John as the ‘pride of New Orleans.’ Butler’s mentor was the great Alvin Batiste and while his sound is all his own, it is impossible to separate it from the storied keys tradition of SoLa.”

There’s nothing much you can do. We go with volunteers, so basically I had to let all my volunteers go.’ The sudden temperature drop killed sales of mango freezes. ‘The food booths,’ Koehl said, ‘they all did really well, because as soon as the rain stopped people wanted to eat.’”

“WWOZ has presented live broadcasts of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell since 1993, first via the station's over-the-air signal at FM-90.7, and lately also by Internet stream at WWOZ.org. A network of stations like WDCB [Chicago] join the party by taking all or part of WWOZ's live feed for their own broadcast listeners. This year's list of simulcast carriers includes outlets in Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and California, as well as stations within easy driving distance of the Fair Grounds. ‘We're an hour and a half away,’ said Justin Martin, general manager of WUSM FM-88.5 in Hattiesburg, Miss. ‘A lot of our listeners end up going to the festival, but there are some that don't get to go at all. I feel like having that content available to them is super-important.’ As it is to WWOZ.”
