Instructions for Prospective Students with Educational Qualifications from Outside

These notes contain important information about how to apply to University; you should read them carefully in order to ensure that your application for admission is success- ful.

Please note: Applicants from China must obtain a certificate from the Akademische Prüfstelle (Aca- demic Evaluation Centre) in Peking before beginning their application procedure. The ASK in Constance cannot process Chinese applications without this APS-Certificate. An extra information sheet on this topic is available from Reutlingen University (in German) for Chinese applicants who are already in Germany. Other applicants from China should go to www.aps.org.cn for further information (German and Chinese language only).

A) APPLICANTS WITH FOREIGN (NON-GERMAN) CITIZENSHIP a) If you completed your secondary education in Germany , you may apply directly to the Admissions Office at Reutlingen University. b) If you completed your secondary education outside Germany , you must first send your application to the: Ausländerstudienkolleg (ASK), Hochschule (Univer- sity of Applied Sciences), Brauneggerstraße 55, 78462 Konstanz, Germany, Tel: +49 (0)7531/206-0; www.ask.fh-konstanz.de ; E-Mail: [email protected]

Please note the following points:

1. If you wish to study in Germany, you must have a university entrance qualification which entitles you to study in the country where you received your school leaving certificate.

2. The ASK will examine your foreign school leaving certificate and decide whether: - it meets the requirements for studying at a German university - it is possible for you to apply directly to a University of Applied Sciences (Fach- hochschule) - you must first take the Feststellungsprüfung (Assessment Exam) at the ASK.

(The ASK bases its decisions on the guidelines established by the Central Office for Foreign Education in ).

3. If you do not need to take the Feststellungsprüfung , you will receive a certificate from the ASK stating your eligibility to apply and to study at Reutlingen University.

4. All other applicants must prove in the Feststellungsprüfung that they fulfil the linguistic and academic requirements of their chosen study programme. One part of the Feststellungs- prüfung is the Test for Admission to Higher Education (DSH ). The ASK offers a 2-semester preparatory course for the Feststellungsprüfung at the Institute for International Students (Studienkolleg ). Since there are always more applications than places available at the Studienkolleg, an Entrance Examination (Aufnahmetest ) is carried out.

5. Students who have successfully passed the Feststellungsprüfung at the ASK will receive a certificate.

6. When you have received the relevant certificate (see #3 and #5), you may apply to study at Reutlingen University. You cannot apply for admission to Reutlingen University until you have these documents.

Evidence of German Language Skills:

As the main language of instruction at Reutlingen University is German, a sound knowledge of the German language is a pre-requisite for studying here. Therefore all applicants must prove that they have good knowledge of German. We strongly recommend that you take an intermediate German course ( Mittelstufe I ) at a Goethe-Institute before taking the Entrance Examination at the Ausländerstudienkolleg . Before you are allowed to take the German Language Test for Admission to Higher Edu- cation (DSH ) you must present a language certificate stating that you have completed an intermediate level course (Mittelstufe I ) or have participated in an advanced level course.
